I ordered my unlock on Sunday morning with Optus, so I'm not expecting to get an SMS yet.
Has anyone who ordered after Friday been unlocked though?
My only concern is I wasn't given a reference number and when I phoned Optus this morning, was told he could see the order but couldn't give me the ref number.

I ordered my unlock from Optus on Tues 15 July and the sms just arrived. Pretty quick.

Not quite sure how the iPhone defines "Data roaming"...

I am not an expert on this, but one theory why it is working as expected for me could be...
Three SIMs over the years may have had different entries in the HPLMN and EHPLMN lists, which I would think the iPhone is using to determine when it is roaming. I definitely remember reading that some Three SIM cards have empty lists but I can't find where I read that.
Can you remember when your SIM was issued. (All customers received new SIMs with different entries around March 2005 - do you have one of these?)
I am pretty sure I haven't had my SIM changed since March 2005 when these lists were changed to facilitate roaming on Telstra from the previous arrangement with Vodafone.

Can explain the process that you had to go through for this? Did telstra contact you to say the unlocking had been done? AS I posted above I had a "Phone Carrier Update" today but when I put my three SIM in it does nothing. With the telstra next G sim I can view both Optus and Vodafone networks under the "Carrier" selection.
I'm hoping mine hasn't been unlocked yet and the update was just to change the names of some things.

mridiot, did you try a full restore? That seems to be the trick in the unlocking process.
Also? Getting the phone through Telstra, do that charge you upfront for the handset, or allow monthly handset repayments?

Telstra Unlocking Procedure
That was my process
I just kept trying every 3 hours
The carrier update just downloads your current SIMs carrier information
I'd say yours wasn't unlocked
when you activate after restoring and can use your choice of SIM other than telstra (key in the PIN) and it boots through - you are safe

Didn't we already come to the conclusion that your phone wasn't unlocked yet? If you've unlocked it and put in a valid sim from another provider, you should see the settings in order to change your APN. No settings = Not unlocked.

So there doesn't appear to be any logic behind who and when iPhones are getting unlocked. People from last Friday are still waiting, while requests placed this Tuesday have been completed.
I've rung Optus twice today, both times they said that their system doesn't show anything, and I just have to wait 10 working days.
