On one of the podcasts (I think MacTalk, but could be Fulltimecasual) it was mentioned that you could use "regular" headphones and still talk at the mic on the phone, even if you looked like a dick.
I tried it, and I did look like a dick, but mostly because it didn't work. Is there something different with the iPhone 3G then there was with the original iPhone?

The first time I tried it, it didn't work. I could hear the other person perfectly, but they couldn't hear me. However, I've tried it several times since then, and it worked fine.

Just ordered a set of the Sennheiser mm50 iP earphones for iPhone, from Apple. I was pretty happy with my CX300's so I hope they will be similar.

I'm definately going to give the PK3 a go - at the price you can't really go too wrong.
I've never been a fan of in-ear phones, but have owned a few decent earbuds in the past. The Audio Technica CM7 is a nice heavy duty ultra-balanced earbud - I lost this along with my 5.5G 30giger which is a bit of a shame.
My favourite has got to be the Sony E888LP. Detailed with a punchy bass for an excellent price ($60 from bluetin aus). Too bad the rubber that holds the thing together wears out quite quickly so it's important to look after this one.
Hope the PK3 does the job. Do you have a pair of these reemixx?

kinda looked like this, except it had "Sennheiser" written on it and it was white.

Also, think twice before buying V-Moda. They're not great for the price to sound-quality ratio (well, unless you really love bass, and want to sacrifice the sound detail for it, in which case, whatever :P ) You can do much better for that price.
A good low-price alternative when it comes to canalphones is the Vsonic R02-Pro. You can buy them from Headphonic in Perth, and they have free shipping around Australia.
For earbuds, you can't beat Yuin. PK3 and PK2 will work fine with iPhone. PK1's require a portable amp, however.
For clip-ons, I'd go for the Koss KSC-75 (still waiting for my mum to get a pair, so I can try the damn things and see what everyone's raving about).
And as probably mentioned already, Ultimate Ears have the SuperFi4 and SuperFi4Vi (the latter has a mic and inline controller) and are branded as "for iPhone". Haven't tried either of them yet.

cheers,
after some searching the v moda seem to have a quality issue, so ill b e staying awat from these, i want the mic inline so it looks the sennheisers are the best for price vs quality

These look sexy :P And I love Sennheiser. The problem I have with the headphones that come with the iPhone is that they really don't even sit in my ear properly. They just fall out. They get loose when I walk, etc, so it's no good for me really. I used to think it was because my ears were wonky... but I think others here have had the same problem.
Do you find the Sennheisers fall out???

Yeah they did - the inline volume was a bit scratchy from that point but it worked for ages! I ended up snagging the cord on something many months later, and ripping the wires out of the volume control

How many of you have used the Yuin PK3?
I have heard nothing but rave reviews about them and they are very reasonably priced.
I want to get some new earphones but not sure on whether I want to go earbuds or canalphones.
Also any comparison on the PK3 vs PK2? Double the price but not sure whether it is justified.

I have some Sennheiser HD465's that I wear all the time with my iPod.
What I'd love to see Sennheiser do (or someone that makes reasonable quality parts) make a replacement cord that has the microphone/clicker on the cable.
I wouldn't think that it would be too hard to do, considering the normal cable (3 meters long) has a 3.5mm jack at either end of the cord.
If they released that, I could possible justify selling my iPod, and just rely on my iPhone.
