If you're looking for cheap disposables - that's what I'm beginning to believe earphones are, you can do worse than
Griffin Tune Buds Mobile. They make a creepy clicking sound when you seat them properly, but I think they're harmless.
They have reasonable sound and isolation, for the money - balanced lows & highs, if a little 'coloured'.
Kmart and BigW stock the non-iPhone version, so hopefully, they'll get the iPhone version soon??
Anyone know of an Australian distributor/reseller for the Mobiles?
As for earphones being 'consumables'... Nobody takes better care of cables than me. I still have the first guitar cable I ever bought (1973), a curly guitar cable (if you know what curly's are like, they're notoriously delicate) and this one's been everywhere with me - on the road, in the studio for more than 35 years. (And it's still the best sounding cable I own.)
... but I use earphones for many hours a day, every day & no matter how much care I take with them, the jacks just don't seem to like being put into pockets connected to the ol' iPhone. Right angled jacks seem to last longer, but they're not indestructible.
I don't mind killing the $2 Reject shop buds, but the $100+ ones
hurt when they die. I'm starting to believe that they're all a consumable item - you use them, you'll kill them eventually. Maybe i need a
scottevest, they have pockets for iPods and probably treat them better than 'jeans' pockets.
