I matched data from CSV file from Vodafone with iPhone and the CSV says less, and that's because it updates every 24hrs but it is very close (within 3 megs less) of what my iPhone says now.

Do you think your data plan is relative enough?!?
Although for optus customer we get unlimited data plan for 1 month..
I seem to only use 3G whilst commuting from work and while at lunch time...
at home i dont use it cuz the signal is not that strong (live 8Km from Brisb CBD!) and I am better off using my wifi.
I am with a 900Mb monthly plan...
Unfortunately the iphone does not distinguish between 3G data and wifi data...
so according to my iphone in a week i had done 49.2 MB now as i said this is a bit off because I use wifi at home...!
so really i am very confident that my data plan is more than enough...
200Mb per month is what i would be using according to my weekly usage which I know..it takes into account my wifi...
But...am very confident that i will be within limits!

the iphone does distinguish between 3g and wifi, the usage meter is only 3g/gprs data

The figure under the heading "cellular network data" in settings>general>usage is only for 3G data, it doesn't include wi-fi data.

AFAIK, the usage meter ignores wifi and only records 3G/GPRS/EDGE

I've got a 500mb allowance and i doubt i will ever get through it. On my old phone i only had 100mb and usually went over it every month. The good thing about the iphone is that it automatically connects to wifi when available, so whenever im at home or the office i get all my push emails over wifi, only use the 3g when im out on the road.
I think im actually using less 3g data then i was with my old phone thanks to the automatic wifi conections, i've only gone through about 15mb this week. so i think my 500mb is heaps.

After a day of use with my iPhone, not a lot of historical data to draw on granted, but I'm not sure I'll get anywhere near my 700mb limit on my $59 'yes' plan. I'll be more of a chance to reach my phone/text limit, haha.
I'll wait until the Optus business plans are released and may consider changing plans then...

I am thinking I should have gone for a yes cap rather than an iPhine plan, I dont hink I will use my 500MB allowance, oh well, I purposely went in low on my spend so I could adjust my plan if needed

Same here, I doubt I will reach 500mb in a month. Only used 25mb so far, although I'm on holidays so maybe once school starts again I will use more. Actually, now that I think about it, I know I will.
We only get LAN access in lecture theaters so if I want to surf whilst bored in lectures I will have to use my iPhone (damn, tethering sure would have been handy for that).
So I may use 500mb a month afterall, I guess only time will tell.

yeah I'm only up 25mb after a week, so I think I'm safe with 850Mb a month....

I can't say this enough - even 250MB is enough for 90 per cent of users, even relatively heavy ones. In my first week of use (relatively heavy in general, but with a mix of WiFi at home/work/elsewhere in there too). I've used about 37MB, putting me on track for a <150MB month.
The way certain journalists harp on and on about how terrible it is we don't get unlimited data, and what a tragedy it is for all that we have such gimped iPhone plans from all the carriers really shits me.
Most of the Optus plans (and enough of the Vodafone plans) have ample data. Hell, if it weren't for the insanely low amounts for calls and texts, I'd even venture that the Telstra data plans aren't terrible.
I think we should wait until the first couple of months of Aussie iPhone use are over before making any sort of definitive crazy calls on this - while a certain degree of forewarning is important, all the hoo-ha is just FUD.
