Apparently asking to speak to either a team leader or operations manager helps with Optus. These guys are the ones that actually know what's going on in the office, particularly the operations manager.

Guys.. i paid in full my prepaid 16gb iphone on the 12 of july. (the optus shop WILL give me a refund if i want one) According to past posts in this forum it's gonna be 1 or 2 months until the shops get prepaid ones. The crazy johns (vodafone) near me has the iphone i want in stock NOW... i don't really want to go on a plan but will if you guys think i should... What do you reckon? (on prepaid i usually spend 30 a month on a recharge+850 for the iphone upfront cost (on prepaid)) The vodafone plans are so expensive.. You tell me guys! (vodafone's lowest plan is $69?!?!?!?

Just got back from Chadstone, thought I might as well stop in to OW while I was there to see how the RC list is going. The dude who served me was pretty friendly, but alas it seems that they are only up to the people still waiting from 3 weeks ago for the black 16GB. I was hoping for better news

The feeling I get is there are many of us who could be waiting up to 2 months before we get our iPhones from Optus stores - even being on a Plan.

If I have to wait more than 3-4 weeks total I think I may go mad, cancel at OW and fly to Sydney for the day to visit the apple store. But from what I hear about previous apple releases, this shortage is at least somewhat a manipulative action on their behalf that they may remedy before it gets out of hand

any advice on how to cancel a contract?

See my post below in this thread. I am unable to cancel my contract at the moment - until the effin' OW "account executive" decides that I can do so without penalty.
The minute this stuff is sorted out, I'm moving both mobiles and the landline back to hellstra.
Optus can go get fucked.

Optus can get f****d as far as im concerned!!! Heres why:
Firstly, i will say i do not blame optus for them not getting stock, its most likely out of their hands...
I put my name down at a local telechoice dealer for my brother to get a 16gb white unlocked prepaid....did that on July 11th, the chinese guy was horribly rude to begin with. Ever since then ive been back multiple times and the guy goes sorry, we got stock, then allocated it all to contract they allocate all the stock to Plans because they get more money off them. DODGY BUSINESS PRACTICE if you ask me, so i said he could stick it and i wouldnt buy it off him.
Wnet to another telechoice dealer today, he was fine, but he had no stock. Then i went to Optus World in Eastland, Ringwood in Melbourne. This is what really through me off Optus. They had a poster up saying no iphone stock, ask a salesperson for details on stock availability, thats cool. So i walked in, stood around, didnt get served until i approached someone, which turned out to be the manager i think and i just simply asked, iphone stock whens it coming. He got all stroppy at me saying join the line, no idea blah blah, he kept going on and on mumbling. The i said i wanted a 16gb white prepaid, and he scoughed and said "good luck with that! you'll be waiting for at least 2 months". He was the biggest arse, so i let him know how i felt Told him this was the first and last time id ever deal with Optus, fed up and all this. He was taken back that i had a go at him, then he just walked off!!!
NEVER AGAIN

I walk past the Melb Central Telechoice shop quite often (in the basement) and noticed that they have a poster like that as well and have a sticker on it saying that it is only available on contract (or raincheck, dont quite remember). I wonder if Optus designed and printed those posters before or after the 11th

Hi,
I rainchecked on the 14th in OptusWorld Shepparton.
I walked in there last wednesday and I was told for a White iPhone I would be waiting an untold amount of time as they had not received one since launch day!
I asked how to leave the contract and they said call customer service, I rang them and was on hold 1 hour 47 minutes.....I eventually hung up.
I was working in Melbourne on Friday the 1st so I walked into My Mac on Flinders st.
They had them in stock and 30 minutes later I walked out with it!
There was no record whatsoever of any previous contract!...The Shepparton store hadn't even processed the paperwork!!!!
I recommend that you don't beleive what you are told from the World stores....they are full of shit.

Optus Post Paid RC Update
As far as all the people who RCd Iphone BEFORE 16th in any of Optus World Stores..
They are in your store. It all arrived yesterday (aug1) but only reason they wouldn't have called you was because they didn't get enough time to call everyone.
If you either book before 16th or sometime around, I strong suggest you should pay a visit.
RC on 14th of July - 16GB Black - Collins/Eliz Store in Mel,VIC - Arrived 1 Aug - Received 2 Aug
Special thanks to all who have replied my wingings

getting credit - what I was told

why can't they put australians on the phone?
|
I spent a long time on the phone with a Customer Service person - they told me that
Customer Service can organise a refund for the services (data etc.) that you didn't use while waiting for your iPhone to be delivered....
BUT to get the Store staff to talk to Customer Service for you, to speed the process up (they'll be able to explain it better).
This is what I've been told. I can't speak for whether it actually works or not. Best to stay on the good side of your Store people, just in case.
The store staff I've spoken with are more p***ed off than we are about the raincheck situation. Imagine how many calls they field in a day? And the order system is apparently so bad, they don't know when stock is coming. All they can say is, 'We'll call you when it comes in.'
