No I was well aware of them not having any in stock.. I was told they'll be in by Thursday this week.. All i'm asking is a confirmation that they're on their way.. nothing else.. And yeah since Sunday, I've been on Optus.. on a contract.. on shitty old phones....

For everyone who is calling around asking "When will you have my iPhone?".... I don't think that they even know, they're just guessing to shut you up.

good work adam

this is getting ridiculous. fair enough that yes, they sold over 1 million phones in 2 days (compared to the 1st generation iphone). but we are talking about it's world wide release. surely apple was anticipating sales of this magnitude. if optus' deposit taking facility was anything to go by... and they had to take that down by the sheer volume of interest...

this is beyond a joke. i just hate this waiting around with no real answers. i ordered 2 x 16 gb at telechoice penrith. they told me they'd have them in by this weekend. but they were honest enough to admit that this is unconfirmed because apple haven't provided a delivery date. geez... what's the problem? how hard is it?

compare this to the service at the apple online store. that was a breeze, outlining expected date of delivery, and providing a tracking number for the shipment once it was sent out. how come they can't do this for entire shipments to the stores??? it just doesnt make sense. throw in a reseller that waits on optus, that waits on apple... no wonder we're all getting mixed signals and no real answers.

i've also ported my number over from voda (still fuming over their crappy crap crap deals), so am forced to use optus credit. phone is not 3g. so i'm wasting my data allowance waiting for this phone?? does that also mean that my "first free month of download" has already started???

i'll be making that call this weekend if i don't the good news from telechoice.

sorry just venting =P

You think that's bad? I had my number ported onto an Optus contract plan on Friday afternoon, it switched over on Saturday morning, and it turned out my 3 handset is one of the few that is physically unable to be unlocked from the 3 network, so since Saturday, I've been on a contract with a sim card that I can't even use. I feel so out of contact with the world!

I sure hope that apple and the carriers learn a very fucking valuable lesson or 200 out of this fuck up...

I'd be calling Optus for at least a partial credit of your first month meg, and from the sounds of it...they are expecting lots of people to. Your free data time has started but they could probably extend that by a month for you too....

Once you get your phone, call them and explain...from all indications they are going to be doing this for a lot of people and let's face it, they don't have much choice really. Spoke to the TIO this morning about the whole "sign 'em up to a contract with no phone" thing, and while they couldn't go into the legalities of it, they said they could deal with the result which is what we should all be entitled to...If Optus don't do anything I'm sure there would be grounds for some sort of class action. That would be absolute worst case scenario though...I reckon they'll be happy enough to credit it to you...let's see how often they can say "yes" You could even ask them to credit the money you had to spend on a prepaid to tide you over, that isn't unreasonable considering you have an active account.

You guys are expecting to be told the correct dates when stores couldn't even tell us how many they were getting in until they actually arrived? And the only reason they knew the first batch was arriving on July 11th is because ummmm.... let me see.. launch day?

There are going to be so many disappointed people here when they don't come this week.

I signed up yesterday at Strathfield Sydney City store for my 16gb black,
I was told a week (hopefully argh).
Interesting to read through the 3G sim booklet looking at all the Zoo services (that I now found out won't work on the iPhone hehe great, can someone tell me if Zoo is free browsing besides ringtone downloads etc) Otherwise I don't see the point of ever using it, I'll just use the facebook iPhone site.

For those in Melbourne's East...

I asked today at a few Optusworld stores:

Knox: None for at least two weeks, and when they come in, they will only be to people who have placed "raincheck orders".

Eastland: Expecting more tomorrow, but only for those who have already placed orders. The following order a couple of weeks after that would most likely only fill current orders as well.

Glen Waverley: Their raincheck list is quite long. They are expecting a delivery in approximately two weeks, but they have no idea how many they will receive in that delivery, whether it will even fill the current waiting list, or whether it will exceed the waiting list, giving them extra stock.

(Repost from other thread, because seemed to go in both)
