A new Optus shop just opened up in the centre where I work, walked in there today and asked them to put my name down on the list for a White 16 GB Prepaid. Fortunately, there was only two people ahead of me on the list!
I'm not ready to buy it just yet, looking at about 2 weeks - but I figured in that time it will have arrived, and they've promised to hold it for me for up to 2 weeks after it arrives.

Don't get me wrong...I've had biiig problems with 3 in the past (it took a year to resolve with the TIO), but since being back with them (and especially if you don't have many needs to ring them) I've had no problems with their service in the time I've had this latest contract (certainly much better when I was with them in 2001 and you had to ring someone 20 times to have a three minute conversation lol)
I think they are much more aware of "people want more than a mobile with their mobile" their X-series plans started the broadband plan wave on mobiles (with Gigabyte allowances for less that god knows) and being able to use Skype and things like that (which are expressly charged as extra services on top of your data with Optus) so I think they have a better idea of data on mobiles than all of the other telcos...probably excepting Virgin (cause I haven't seen much of what they offer), and up until recently Vodafone.
It is only my opinion...but I think if three got the iPhone...it would be data smorgasboard time

where is that exocet? did they say anything about stock levels for post-paid phones? I am after an 8GB but can't be bothered queuing up just to sign a contract in the hope of getting one in a couple of weeks...

I was told I would be liable for exit fees etc, so I just went straight to TIO...rang the Optus customer relations team with my TIO complaint number...they're looking at it now

Yeah I am getting to that point too. I am willing to give them some slack but what I can't abide is lying to my face:
1) ie. i was told (by Allphones) i needed to sign a contract first (ok i got suckered there)
2) yeah it will be here monday, tues at the latest. (16gb black, if there are supply issues tell me and give me the option to change to the white or back down to a 8gb, to allow me to get my handset)
I don't really like the idea of paying for the iphone and not being able to get the phone for a potential 2-4 weeks. I bet the TIO has gotten quite a few calls regarding this and I am sure they will be getting plenty more in the next few weeks.

Toowong Village - the store literally opened this morning. Its next to the 3 and Vodafone kiosks downstairs near Zaraffas Coffee. There was still workmen in-store hanging up visual marketing on the walls and I'd say the paint was still wet . No mention on post-paid levels, I only got to see the exercise book they were using for prepaid. Fortunately I don't think they were asking for a contract before putting you down, they simply asked for my name, mobile number and handset preference.

I'm lucky enough to have my work pay for my calls as long as I side with 3, but honestly they provide the best value for money on data. I don't travel outside of metro areas often at all, so the coverage is sufficient for my needs.

As consumers we should have the right to take our business elsewhere...this deprives us of that...It's almost bait advertising!

I think I am on record earlier in this thread as saying that I thought the whole process of contracting people under the guise 'rainchecks' was deceptive.
Having said that, what did you expect? You signed a contract with them.

Well I signed a contract with the understanding that a product would be provided to me at a particular time...now that isn't the case and I'm being told "don't know when" I've had jack of it lol

I have to say I signed up on launch day and was told two weeks. Whether that was a maximum time line - I guess I'll just have to wait to see.
