I did the same, just spoke to Optus CS, and cancelled my contract. I said I'm not waiting until Sept 12 and it's really not good enough and the guy I spoke to said he agreed and said my contract would end in 3 days.

I have heard from someone that works for optus that ther have been shipments to queensland in the last 2 days and that they expect to fill the rest of the orders soon my question is however if they got stock in and i was at the top of the list for my desired phone (16gb white) the other day before the deliveries why haven't i received a phone (they say i am still top of the list)

I ordered my 16GB white iphone over the phone last sunday! It has come today!!! YAY That's only 5 working days. If you want a phone within a week order the white one. I like it a lot better than the black anyway. BTW they told me it was gonna be the 11th that i was gonna get it so they're ahead of schedule.

I called optus chadstone yesterday and was told that my phone was in though i needed to wait for the manager to go through them all and wait for a call later that day. I didnt receive a call so I went in today and they said I still had to wait for a call because the manager still hasn't gone through them all. I pretty much said to the guy that optus are a mess and that the customer service there is disgraceful. I ordered my iphone on the 14th of July (16gb Black)

dont worry mate the same thing happened to me today. they said they have my phone but i need to wait for the text saying come in and pick it up. Optus, where the wonders never cease.
Oh and by the way i changed my pre-paid over to a plan (so i could get the iphone 'quicker') and within a week was bombarded by 3rd party companies for ring tones etc. just brilliant.

got the call on thursday picked it up and i must say very impressed

dude... I wouldn't wait for prepaid... I originally ordered a prepaid one but then I signed up for a 12 month plan over the phone. I got it in 5 working days. Go for it it works out cheaper when you include your monthly recharges on the prepaid. I'm, even now, using my iPhone to make this post.

i overheard the optus guys talking while waiting for my phone they were telling people that the iphone would never be sold outright through them
prepaid 16g was also looking doubtful

Rc with ow Watergardens 24/7 for 16gb white. Called fri and spoke to luke the manager. Told me they have 16gb black in stock if I wanted one. Went there, told him I needed the white one ( I was very nice and polite) and he came out of the store room with one! So the morale of the story on my case is be nice and reasonable, and it might turn up good. Just ask for luke to check if they have stocks of 16gb black cos I heard him say they got quite a few in. i was not there on open day
since there wasnt any iphones left
so i just came back on the sunday 13th and rainchecked
and i was #73 overall on the raincheck list

Yet the Optus website has a whole page dedicated to the prepaid 16GB...

I expect that when the post-paid orders are slowing down (ie. 3-5 days between order and delivery) they will release the prepaids, like the 8GB prepaids are leaking through now *crosses fingers and toes*
