apparently their coastal and inland system went down...
the inland was their backup...but a card in that system overheated due to the coastal link being cut.
now if they restore their backup...
i doubt we would still be back to normal...in terms of speed...
but they havent really release an ETA for this?!

apparently a optus fibre has been cut accidently and causing outages in all of qld and northern NSW.
Seems to effect all optus networks including phone and adsl.

Its unknown when it will be back up and online.

Tech people are reported to be fixing the issue.

More info... (we use Optus for phones at work)

Dear Valued Customer,

There is currently a Major Optus outage that may be affecting your service.

Affected Services:
-Data traffic between Sydney and Brisbane.
-Ability to make calls (landline, mobile) between Brisbane and Sydney.

Estimated Time of Repair: 13:00 Hrs

Type of Outage: State Wide Outage.

Cause:
-Inland fibre path – repeater failure occurred last night – near Stanthorpe. Equipment dispatched to Brisbane and onsite this morning.
-Fibre path failure on coastal path – failed this morning between Brunswick Heads and Gold Coast. Suspect digging activity.

yeah, I'm on my iPhone using edge data (its with telstra). My office Internet and phone are both down! I'm in maroochydore on the sunshine coast. Its been down since like 8am this morning...

Hopefully it is back up soon...

Its crazy how much we rely on internet

man - i had to call a taxi earlier... my phone couldn't get a connection with optus... i was FORCED to walk up to another office to see if they were with anyone but optus so i could call.

One thing i did think about, there is so much infrastructure with phone lines/cables that we rely on, i'm surprised that we don't see things go down more often with the amount of emphasis we have on these things
