apparently someone at the whirpool forums is also experiencing this..
and it seems is not just cellular networks but...internet.. and home...as confirmed earlier...

update: damaged cable in the Moorooka exchange which I guess probably links all of Optus in Brisbane.

Yep, my iPhone just went down, and I can't call any Optus numbers, and their website times out for me too.

It's effecting all the Webcentral websites if you're connected through Optus... so you might be able to connect to Google, but not cricket.com.au or essendonfc.com.au (both of which rely on webcentral for their hosting).

Which means I can't do bugger all work this morning!

The external incoming/outgoing calling is down here at work (we use optus) and my iphone is showing signal but unable to use the network

Hope optus fixes this soon

this just in from our ISP....

Dear Valued Customer,

There is currently a Major Optus outage that may be affecting your service.

Affected Services:
-Data traffic between Sydney and Brisbane.
-Ability to make calls (landline, mobile) between Brisbane and Sydney.

Estimated Time of Repair: 13:00 Hrs

Type of Outage: State Wide Outage.

Cause:
-Inland fibre path - repeater failure occurred last night - near Stanthorpe. Equipment dispatched to Brisbane and onsite this morning.
-Fibre path failure on coastal path - failed this morning between Brunswick Heads and Gold Coast. Suspect digging activity.
