Well, the usage alerts do appear to have been disabled for those on Yes plans and not cap plans. (But we can still use live billing)

i've started an account, i'm just waiting for it to become active.
so if i interpret you correctly, you are saying that if you are on a yes cap plan you get both live billing and usage alerts. while on a yes plan you just get live billing?

That's (what I believe to be) correct; on the page it says "If you are on a post-paid mobile Cap Plan"; and if I ignore this and try to set up anyway it says "The service you have selected is on a mobile plan or fixed line service that does not support Usage Alerts."

Yes, that's what it says for me as well. I also set mine up on Sunday. It's Wednesday morning, and it still says that usage is unavailable while the account is being set up. Seriously, Optus is quite shite. With Three I could check all my usage on my phone.

so how many people have actually been successful in getting live billing and usage alerts working on their iPhones?
i'm a little worried about this, because the contract we signed with Optus, the T&C's specifically stated that in regards to YES CAP PLANS -
"You are not able to view your monthly usage prior to receiving your bill. If you exceed the included value of these services in any one billing period, standard rates of your plan will apply."

Still nothing for me either, I set up my account on Monday, rang them and was told that it would take 48hours then emailed them yesterday about rumours that online viewing of usage would not be available got a confirmation email that they have received my message to support which said they would get back to me within the next 5 days but have heard nothing back yet about whether or not it will be available!!

I guess everyone must be flooding the account link up process. But still it should not take this long to set up a lot of accounts given the anount of time that has passed so far.
Btw, I just started speed typing using my iPhone and I'm making a lot of mistakes but the dictionary seems to know what I mean to type every single time, it's awesome!

Actually thinking about it, they didn't answer the question that I asked....I asked about being able to view usage, the emails states that the usage alert is not available!! nothing about being able to view usage online.

The double thumb technique is really quick. I reckon it's a lot quicker than typing on a phone with little plastic buttons. The correction is really good, and as we get more accurate we'll have to rely on the correction less.
But back to the topic. I will ring Optus and find out about the usage, then report back.
