Telstra iPhone 3G data usage trick

Ok all

Apologies if this is posted elsewhere... I did a quick search but couldn't see it.

I've tried to access "Data Usage Snapshot" via the Bigpond Mobile for iPhone page
(My Account / Data Usage Snapshot)

only to get a webpage error
"Forbidden
Your client is not allowed to access the requested object"

So after a frustrating 40 mins on the phone to Telstra, and now a fault logged...
the operator did give me a very clever work around!

You can SMS the word "USE" to the number 176
and it sends back your usage!

aka I received
Mobile Data Usage -
1. 06/07 27kB $0.81

Whilst I'm not quite sure what that means exactly... I'm keen this first month to monitor my data usage - so I can go up or down a Data Pack according to my usage.

SMS trick - is an ok workaround... albeit as I told the operator... so Telstra charge me the cost of the SMS to find out my usage!?!?!!

Will be interesting to monitor usage over the month now!

Update

Just worked out you can also view this data via the web.
Log in to Telstra using your username and password, and you can navigate to check Data Usage.

You can add your mobile phone online as well (which I was hoping might fix my error above... alas with no result though).

The numbers above seem to be for Sunday - looks like a 9 second data session!?!?!!

What would be interesting is to compare the data usage records that the iPhone logs under Settings with what the Telco's have said you have used and see if they match up.

The forbidden web page error has been fixed.
I got a call yesterday from Telstra technician - but couldn't talk - I was in a meeting... he rang back this morning - and it seems to work now.

Only hiccup is today 16 July..
I only have three entries...
06/07
10/07
10/07

Yet the iPhone wasn't released until 11 July?!?!
