Optus pre-pay to a cap plan on iPhone. Can I change?

I've ordered an iPhone with Optus on a pre-pay plan. I'm hoping once unlocked I can use it on 3. So far that's not looking good. My question is this. If and when I get my iPhone on pre-pay and it doesen't work on 3, can I then swap to a plan on Optus when I've already got the iPhone pre-pay?

Will Optus allow me to use my pre-pay iPhone on a cap plan?

Thanks. Apologies for starting yet another iPhone thread.

To be eligible for the iPhone specific caps (with Data) I think you have to sign up for the Phone as well, since you've already got the phone that could be a problem.

Optus now has BYO iPhone plans.
Another member here signed up his V1 iphone on it already.
Same deal as the contracts, sans handset repayments, but not sure if it's a contract though.

Check their website.

Thanks guys. I checked out the Optus website and there is a BYO option on a month to month plan.

Quote:
Q: I already have an iPhone, can I connect to the Optus Network?

A: Yes! You can connect to a BYO month to month Optus iPhone Cap or ‘yes’ Plan.

Q: Can anyone connect to the iPhone ‘yes’ or Cap plans?

A: No, to be eligible you must either already have an iPhone handset or purchase an iPhone handset with an Optus iPhone ‘yes’ or Cap plan.

I suppose there is two ways you can do it, depending on what you want to do..

1 - Any Prepaid service can be changed to a Plan. You speak to Customer Service to do a pre-to-post transfer. They effectively cancel the number, and then re-activate it as a post-paid account on the plan of your choice. (In this case, an iPhone M2M).

2 - If you want to use the mobile number that's active on your Three SIM, discarding that of the Optus SIM, port that Three number into Optus on the appropriate plan as M2M+BYO.

What about other caps and plans. How would optus or telstra know if you have bought your phone outright and keep a current cap plan or whatever and then add a data plan to that. Will it work?
