While I was waiting for the iPhone on Friday morning, 2 hours just for credit check, the store guy (Strathfield!) walked past me and says "Is this worth it for a phone?". As a customer waiting to finalise the service, I felt quite insulted, so I asked them to cancel my wait and walked out of the store.
Last time in a Strathfield store for me.

If I was lining up for a phone I'd half expect to be made fun of. But, just take it in good humour. It's no big deal, either way. The journo was a jerk, but there's no need to get so precious. Is there?
Note: If I thought I was a chance of getting a phone through Optus on Friday morning I would have lined up for sure.

LOL what a tool. He thought he was being hilarious, too. Epic fail.
A lot of folks just don't get it. And that's fine. But it wouldn't be fine if someone else made fun of THEM when they're doing something extreme for something they love. I hate how it's so very one-sided when it's about Apple, the iPhone, or technology in general.
No-one would be made fun of if it was for a sports team or a car or something.

If someone pays me out about waiting 5 hours for a phone I'll ask them how long they waited in line for their concert tickets, football match, at the actual concert. They still won't understand though cause we are still teenagers and don't realise that people are allowed to have different opinions/thoughts/feelings from their own.

i think its just because you have to, supposedly, be "a tech savy-nerd" to use them....
its just like you have to be a "drunk bogan, to enjoy football"
its a common misconception.

I'm a journalism student, and I've got to say that morons like that guy make the rest of us look bad.
Even the people in the studio sounded like they were embarrassed by the reporter.
He sounds like such a dipshit as well. "Come on, I mean, whatisit, come on, I mean, honestly, what is the deal?" Learn to speak in coherent sentences before going on live television.
And what's more, when he pulls HIS phone out of his pocket (looks like a Treo or something), he immediately says that it's a company phone and he didn't buy it. He KNOWS it's a shit phone, and that the iPhone is a superior product.
In fact, he's jealous of all those people who are about to get iPhones. He wishes he was in the line. He probably got back into the TV van and burst into tears, both because he got pwned by the guy in line, and because he really wanted an iPhone.

I think the fact he was ripping off Conan O'Brien from a few years ago with the Star Wars line (The 'have you seen a woman naked....')
At least that was humorous, and the people in the Star War's line a little more dorky.
That dick was just plain insulting.
That said, I've told a few people I spent 5.5 hours in line at the Apple Store in sydney, and they all looked at me like I was mad.

He's right, though. It's a phone for chrissake, nothing more, why queue for it? Isn't queuing one of the reasons to soviet union was "bad"?

Is that why there were 300,000 pre-orders for an iPhone in Australia? Yeah, it's nothing more than a phone...right....
