Directions?

This is a noob question....

is it possible for the map application on iPhone to give directions without going through the internet?

My GPS is now working and i was able to see my location...

No it need the internet for map data.

this means that i would still pay the 3G bandwidth for the directions....

i hope that there would be a software that give direction based on the GPS just like the a normal GPS navigation system product...

Correct. And this is why the teeny weeny amounts of data included in the Tesltra plans just aren't sufficient.

5MB/month included? What good is that? My girlfriend managed to go trough 16MB in the first day without even playing with youtube. I can only imagine I'll use more once my iPhone arrives.
