No email/SMS/missed call indication

When you have the iPhone on 'key lock mode' it would be nice to have some sort of indication that you have an email, SMS or have missed a call...clock would also be nice.

Even if these were in black and white...wouldn't suck up that much battery...might even save some as you don't have to turn it on each time to check what you have missed/the time.

As people have touched on:-
*Battery life is awful
*Camera is very poor
*MMS not available

Other issues highlighted by the iPhone:-
*All Data plans in this country suck!!
I disagree about the Camera. It produces better photos than I managed with my previous phones with 2 megapixels. When I know I want to take photos I'll take my proper camera, but for impromptu photos, the iPhone is great.

Battery life might become an issue - mine is lasting longer now the novelty has worn off and I'm beginning to use it more normally, rather than using it all the time but they tend to deteriorate over time.

I've never once managed to successfully send or receive an MMS from any previous phone. It seemed to be quite unreliable and dependent on the receiver's phone and carrier being compatible. Sending photos by email seems much more sensible, particularly as more people have the capability.

Totally agree on the Data plans! This phone cries out for unlimited data like they have in the US and Europe. Constantly wondering whether you're about to go over the data limit takes away some of the magic.

My issues in addition to the above would be:
- SMS character count
- Ability to highlight text to delete it all at once, if not full copy/paste which would be great
- Crashes too often - nothing major yet, but five or six times over 3 days I've been returned to the home screen from Safari or another app.

I also agree about when the phone is in key locked mode, it would be nice if the phone could some how indicate if I've had any missed calls or messages. I feel I'm wasting a lot of battery waking it up all the time just to check.

Has anyone else had any problems when replying to a text message? I find the keys and all slow to react, about a second or two delay. New text messages are perfect, I feel this might be a software issue. I must say I'm impressed with the auto correction, I can pound out a text message almost as quick as typing it out on a regular keyboard, its superb.

I've had that on all 3G phones I've used. Using 3, living outside the 3G network when traveling too or from work I'd lose connection crossing between 3G and GSM and back again, sometimes for a while.

It's one of the reasons I went with Telstra over Optus or Vodafone.

i agree with, deleting/forward single txt msgs, adding txt count and missed call/email alert screen when phone is 'asleep' but would also like a little icon in the in the menu bar or something when a txt or email comes in....

also, i get a few seconds lag on lots of things, like contact search and loading some apps ... sometimes is hard to know if the press has registered or not and i've found myself double pressing only to find i press something by accident on the next screen when it loads.

There's someone else's itunes account loaded on her phone. michael.someone@bigpond.com!!!

and the stupid thing is, I loaded MY itunes settings into the telstra computer as part of the unbricking!!!

Help. please. anyone....

Have you updated to the NEW iTunes 7.7

My iPhone has the dreaded negative black issue.

I thought this was fixed a year ago.

Apparently not.

It'd be nice to be able to name photos when you take them on the Photo Roll - save having to name them when you upload to the computer. But that's only a minor point.

I'm pretty happy otherwise, there's things that'd be nice (like being able to delete things like Stocks which i'll NEVER use).

Also : SMS tones customisable to whatever you download & icon/theme replacement.

I know those can be done with jailbreaking, but I'd prefer Apple to do it.

Well, my 3G signal is bust. I can get GPRS but the 3G icon won't come up when i'm on 3G. Can't access the internet, maps, app store unless I kill 3G. That puts me on GPRS and GPRS is hell. I'm on Vodafone and if anyone is having the same problem and got it solved, please, please help me.
*edit*: Fixed problem with a restore.

A few people I know are waiting for some big improvements. The blackberry is an ugly piece of junky hardware that does very well for the business professional. It can give custom tones for each sender, email or sms, not just calls. If it is an important sender you know straight away from the custom alert.

And the bluetooth file exchange are a little bit confusing to the average user who just needs to connect to get something from someone.

I compare this whole fiasco with removing the floppy drive.

We are all going to move forward, it's just Apple being too far in front.

My wife says to me " What can the iPhone do that our current phones don't?"

I cannot lie to her, so I say " It's just such a great interface!"

I really am not bagging the iPhone, we will get one each soon, but Apple are smart enough to know that the next version will be even more exciting than this release.

The plastic backs also means they can easily introduce a few colors so everyone will know who has the new ones.

It is the old age saying, "making money not friends"

Kind of like what the iPod nano does while it's playing music? I agree.

Even some kind of indicator when you press the sleep/wake button, so you don't have to "Slide to unlock" to check.

a few problems I have come across since Friday.
1 contacts list does lock up for a few seconds and I still
Find myself taping and the list trying to scroll through.
2 I have found that the 3g and. Wireless will sometimes
Just lose signal, even if there are bars showing I get a error
From safari saying no internet conection or something to that effect
When this happens I need to diss me wifi a disable 3g from the menu
And turn Both setting back on and it works again.
4 key board can lag if you type too fast for it.
5 the signal strength is very weak were I had no service
My wife had full bars on her 3g nokia navigator on the same carrier (optus).
Hope apple can fix these issues

I'm also not having much luck with
MobilMe it is not pushing
MY bigpond account even though I have set it up
It worked once but not since.

MobileMe seems to be pushing pretty well now. I did a lot of cleaning up of my address book (from 459 entries to 257) today and changes were pretty much instantaneously. Also the phone got email minutes before my computer.
