Does anyone know if the Optus Wifi hotspots allow applications other than safari to access the internet?

The reason i ask is I come from Adelaide and the state govt has put in hundreds of internode wifi hotspots pretty much everywhere in the city and the cibo coffee shops (which are everywhere), but in my experience it only allows me to access safari on any device, powerbook, ipod or iPhone.

So if the Optus hotspots allow me to use facebook and mail, i just might start using them instead!

Once you establish the connection, and authenticate in Safari, you can use other apps.

I'm surprised other apps aren't working on Internode. Other than Mail and IM, I would have thought most of them would use port 80, same as Safari for web browsing.
