Ok pictures from my Azure adventures so far.

When you connect to the Azure wifi network and try and browse to any URL you are presented with the following

From this I choose to login using a reseller account and choose Optus Wireless Connect

Click the image to open in full size.

From there your taken to the Optus Wireless connect login page

If you try and login using your Optus wifi credentials you are greeted with

If you try and register for the Optus Wireless Connect system you get the following

NOTE: I have already registered with an Optus Wifi hotspot on Monday, this registration was successful and I can use the Optus network with no issues.

So still I am unable to access the Azure network at this time.

I need to grab screenshots of the Optus Wifi hotspot I visited in Hudsons Coffee on Elizabeth Street (near corner of Abeckett Street) because as earlier noted it does look different to the images shown above.

Have you spoken to the iPhone Department at Optus about this?

To be honest I haven't bothered Optus with anything as yet figuring they are kinda busy.

I need to speak to them as it seems I have an Optus login for their online services but for the life of me I can't remember it

Anyone got an update on this? I'm nowhere near an Optus Hot Spot but have a few Azure ones around. I tried an Azure one and have had the same experience. Optus iPhone team seem to want to tell me 'just enter your mobile number and you'll get an SMS' which is useless. so, *bump* if anyone has had any joy

Sorry haven't had the time or need to contact Optus/Azure to date.

I've found I've used less data than expected on 3G so generally just use it when out and about, in addition to the wifi at home and work.

Same here - I'm trying my best to hit 100Mb, let alone 500Mb...

I was having dinner in a cafe next to a Gloria Jean that was listed as one of the free wifi hotspots. Upon loading Safari to browse, it asked me if I wanted to connect to the Optus wifi. I "allowed" and I was surfing for (hopefully) free. It had the wifi signal instead of 3G listed next to OPTUS, and it plodded along. It was a poor signal (being next door), so no activations, no SMS, no login....just like connecting back to your wifi at home after using another wifi elsewhere.

Wifi

Hi

I had the same problem re: Azure hotspots. Finally after 3-4 calls to the Optus iPhone support line - they said that free wifi is for Optus hotspots only, NOT Azure ones - even though the Azure ones are branded Optus. If it is for Optus hotspots only - then its pretty much useless as there are hardly any of them!

To me this is poor form and their iPhone benefits are misleading.

I assume you had to authenticate or register in order to use it?

If you don't typically the Optus hot spots just redirect you to their login system.

While Azure was never mentioned in any Optus documentation, I think it was an assumption or wishful thinking on all iPhone users that Azure would be included.

I am not sure why Optus wouldn't allow it, unless there are other costs associated with the Azure network which they are unwilling to cover. But what they are I can't even begin to think, after all Optus is the backbone all the Azure hot spots utilise anyway.

Sigh.....

Anyway the only Azure hotspot near me is the one in Melbourne Central, even there I get better coverage from RMIT Universities hotspots

No registration or authentication required.

No. I tried connecting to a Gloria Jeans' hotspot in Greensborough, and it required a password. This Gloria Jean is not listed in OPTUS' hotspot list

But the Gloria Jean's hotspot in Glen Waverley IS listed as one of OPTUS' hotspots, and this was the one I could just connect to.
