Official "rant about your July 11 morning thread"

this is how it happened:

this morning at 6.15 I went to north sydney optusworld to queue for an
iphone 3g like a fanboywhich I have never done before.

I was 20th in line. there were about 80 behind me...i got one of the
last 4 16gb iphones...

they were taking around 20 minutes to process each signup ..... after
waiting for about 2 hours she is going throuhg all the forms and
signing me up on the computer.... it comes up runninng the credit
check 'call optus'... holding for FORTY MINUTES...girl goes ok sorry
there is aproblem with your credit history you have to call this
number later and they can tell you about it ...we cant sign you up
today.. i offered to pay fully upfront, pay cash, WHATVER>..no sorry
we cant help you..

I run back to the office to call the credit company..they tell me i
have to get my credit file which is free and takes 10 days or i can
get same day for $27.

my credit file arrrives..... Vodafone says I owe them $479 from when I
churned away on the 12 june.. i check my bank history and i paid
vodafone on that day!!!!!!!!!!! I call vodafone " umm yeah we marked
it as a default we can't remove it"."but i paid it on that day its
still marked as unpaid on my credit file!!!!" : voda: hold please
vodae: you paid $477 which was $1.62 short so we marked as in default
ONE DOLLAR SIXTY F*******
TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they didn't call me
...OR send me a bill they just whacked a F***** DEFAULT ON MY CREDIT
HISETORY..

IM SO ANGRY.

what a waste of a morning. and now my 16gb black iphone i queued for is GONE...

Hmmm - While I don't doubt what happened to you this morning, I find it a bit unlikely that you would have an extreme or red credit rating from a bill that is less than one month old. Also, there is no way that it is on your permanent credit record after just one month. To do that you have to be served (court documents) and not pay within the required time, and all this happens after your debt being sold to debt collection agencies who then chase for a few months.
I suggest you have a good look at your file - it is prolly something odd like a small amount still linked back to a previous address like electricity/gas or something. Also you can get your credit history for free from lots of places - you only pay if you want it express.
Just take a deep breath and sort it all out. Worst case scenario is that you tidy up your credit history and find yourself with lower interest rates on future loans etc.
Good luck

I feel for the poster. That is so wrong. Voda shouldn't have done that for a outstanding amount of $1.something. That is so wrong. I'd look into it and see what action you can take as seriously, it shouldn't of been flagged on your file as the entire amount as being unpaid, when you paid a large amount of it. They seriously should of wrote it off.

Stupid Vodafone.

Allow me to be the first to hijack the thread (and say that sucks I hope you get your handset soon).

I was in the queue for Optus Elsternwick around 5am, and was 15th. Got in, had paperwork done and ready to go with a consultant around 7:20. Consultant calls the Mobile Activations Group to get an override code for my contract (terminate and re-contract the iphone). I patiently waited. and waited. and waited. At 10:30am (yes, a full 3 hours after they called up) they were *still* on hold to the activations team. Then all the systems melted, came back and melted again. Apparently they needed someone special to help me as I was on the old billing platform and not their new baby-spew yellow bill system.

So, after around 5 1/2 hours there I still have no handset. I have a signed contract and a promise they'll call me when it's resolved, along with a 16 gig black put aside for me and locked up (They ran out of black 16 gig around 9am).

So not impressed. If they try and slug me a large termination fee for my contract, I'm going to have words

Sorry to hijack again :P

Thumbs down Optus are iDiots

I payed my $100 dollar deposit to optus the night of wwdc - they've been investing my money for some time now.

I lined up at the Optus store on george st, was 50-70 in line.

Optus staff went down the line with forms asking exactly what we were wanting - what colour - what size - pre payed or post payed - this was so they could send people on their way when they counted more customers than iPhones - right?
WRONG!
I got really close to the front - a whole 70 people had gone in (ooooooh! wow! So many people! 70!) - and they yell out no more pre payed - what?

- even if 100% of those 70 people were going pre payed - which is not the case - I spoke with many who were going post payed - 70 pre payed iPhones? Really?

Right - so what the hell - I had no intentions of locking in for 24 months but I was willing to do it to get the 16GB white iPhone.

All the way to the front - only for them to say because I am with optus pre-payed - i'd need a credit check TOMORROW.

Apple store isn't selling pre payed either. What is everyone afraid of?

I'm giving them close to a thousand dollars in cash on the spot.

Same happened to me at Optus Chadstone.

With the 2.0 firmware looking like it is going to be breakable within the next few days, I'm going to wait it out now.

Getting a default on your credit rating for 1.62 cents is ridiculous, especially without warning or notification. Surely there should be some recourse.

Does $1.62 even count as a default?
