Ok just found a setting in iTunes that adds another column for ring tones and then an option under Store called Create Ringtone but when I do I get an error message (iTunes could not connect to the itunes store. An unknown error occurred - 11556. Make sure you network connection is active and try again.
Nothing wrong with the connection ?

Thanks for that but I still get that error so it's not working for some reason. Is it something I need to fix or is this option not available for Australian users ?

Isn't it 40 seconds? At least in garageband when you make them yourself. The real question should be: why would you pay for a song twice? Sure, legitimately buy it, but then edit it yourself in garageband or QT Pro and export as a ringtone. Done.

After a week, I'm pretty disappointed with the iPhones. Constant network drop outs and call drops are really starting to affect my partners business. Clients are asking why their calls keep dropping out, my partner says to them he thinks it's the new iPhone. Doesn't make a good impression on them.
I really wish something official was released to acknowledge the drop out issues.

What have dropouts got to do with the iPhone?
It's a carrier issue - Not a iPhone issue.
Has your partner ever been on a 3G network before? Try switching the iPhone to GSM instead.
Don't blame the iPhone if it is a carrier issue.

Hey I'm just saying that both sims have been used in 3G phones in the past, both with Optus, never an issue. All of a sudden, new iPhones bad coverage and call drop outs.
Got a new sim for one phone, still same problem. I doubt it's a carrier issue. I dock the phones, perfect coverage, take them out of the docks, poor coverage again. You can't tell me that it's an Optus issue.
The iPhones have not proven to be reliable devices yet.
As for GPRS, why did they make it 3G if you can't get decent coverage for it? Why isn't it auto switching when 3G becomes unstable?

That's what I want. At the moment, if there's patchy crappy 3G, it will struggle on it. Why can't there be a setting "Revert to GPRS when 3G signal is less than ____ bars." ?

This "should" happen automatically
My old phone never had great reception in my apartment, usually 1 or 2 bars on a 3g connection. but my iphone is lucky to have 1, and about 50% of the time I get NO signal at all (Not even to make a phone call )
Hopefully this can be fixed through software, but I highly doubt it. The reception is crap...
A few years back I had an O2 Atom Life (what a piece of crap) and they released a firmware update that actually improved the HSDPA reception, and it worked. Hopefully this can be done here.
Little bit of a let down in this department on what is otherwise a fantastic device.

Well one week on and my experience has been generally fantastic. I am in LOVE with this device. It truly is fantastic.
The only bad things I've encountered are firmware bugs (one crash, something my accelerometre is a bit weird, etc) but I can live with those as they are not impacting my day-to-day experience... i.e. these "bad" things have only happened once or twice.
The other thing is Optus related - the 3G coverage is a bit weird sometimes. But I am sure that's because there are soooo many people on there and, well, maybe 'cos their system is naturally buggy. :P
But overall - I f&%ing love it. I LOVE being able to surf the net wherever I am... being able to check emails, do banking, chat on Facebook, surf forums.. it's just fantastic. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

Mine is the opposite! I use to have very poor reception in my area (esp in my apartment!). I could always hear the caller, but they could not hear me - only static. And this well known through a lot of my friends. But using the iPhone, although the strength of reception hasn't improved visually (the carrier strength bars), I can say that people who have called me have noticed a massive change in reception.
And I haven't changed carriers (Optus), so it has to be the iPhone!

You sound like a whinger... if you think it's not what you expect take it back.. flap your gums to the sales staff. surely if you own a business you would have spare mobile phones laying aroud. So it won't affect your business, change the phone...
I have to say reception is perfect on my phone... my iPhone automatically switches from 3G to GSM when coverage is questionable... let me just say - reception on the first iPhone was significantly worse because of the metal back... particularly wi-fi.
also what dick statement to make the iphones have not proven to be reliable devices yet ... i'm sorry but what idiot would buy something he wasn't sure was reliable....
end rave....
