Yes.
They are seemingly the only ones in the Sydney CBD to still have iPhones (Optus) in stock.
In my moment of weakness, I went searching for iPhone prepaid at Optus, but none were around. So, after noticing that there was no line left (@ 7:55 tonight) I went and sought refuge at the Apple Store seeking an iPhone.
Well, I realised why there was no line. The specialists were turning people away as the Optus systems had gone down earlier in the evening.
Powerhouse down the road also has iPhone for Vodafone but as Huy said, no longer sell prepaid.

"Hi There, Id like to order the iPhone 3G on prepaid- thats presuming you dont have any stock, do you?"
"Gidday mate, sorry we dont have anystock, but can I take your details?"
"Sure, is this for the raincheck?"
"No, we arent doing rainchecks for prepaid models, just taking your details and we will call you when we have prepaid ones avalible for purchase"
Does this mean I have rainchecked one or not?? I didnt hand over any cash or sign anything, so I have no idea. I really want one ASAP, so if anybody does know anywhere in Brisbane they have walk in Prepaids avalible, let me know!

I have been calling around and going in to stores (since release) all around the west side of town and there is no stock for pre-paid. all the stores i tried will take your name but will not "raincheck" it at this stage. So i have given up on getting one in the next few weeks and just given them my details and hope that someday one will call.
I have calmed down now and i'm not in sutch a rush as i was to get a iPhone, so i went out and spent the money on my new toy, TiVo.
by the time i get the call to say we have your phone i will have saved up enough to get it again.
morral of the story, get another gadget to tide you over until you get your iPhone as it may take awhile

Seeing as prepaids seem to be extremely rare at the moment, I've been checking out prices for going on a contract and cancelling it. Am I right in assuming to get a 16GB on Optus' $59 plan it would cost $7 per month for 24 months, plus if you immediately cancel the contract there's an $840 fee? That would bring the grand total of the 16GB iPhone to $924. That's five bucks cheaper than buying prepaid and unlocking. Surely I'm missing something...?

65 pages is way too long to read guys, happy to be directed to a post that answers my question though .
I'm on contract with Telstra ($15/month Consumer plan) until April '09, I'm looking to buy an iPhone (preferrably unlocked) and put my current Telstra SIM in it, then add a data pack. Got a couple of questions in regard to this scenario..
1. As far as I'm aware, the only bonus i'm missing out on by doing this is the fact I won't be receiving any free Wifi @ Telstra Hotspots Australia Wide, I'll be paying, just like everyone else. So, basically, it seems to me that that is the only 'feature' you get for signing your name on the dotted line of the 24 month NextG contract. Is this correct? Is there anything else I'm missing?
2. Are there any places in Sydney that have Prepaid stock of the 16GB Black phone? The reason I say prepaid is that I want to take out the SIM and put in my Telstra one and Prepaid seems to be the only way to do that..
3.I was in the CBD on iPhone release day (11th), at which point the Apple store were only selling contracted units for the 3 carriers, no prepaid or outright. Has this changed?
Thanks in advance for all your help

In that equation, did you include the repayments for the iPhone. AFAIK Optus don't hand out the 16GB for free on a $59 plan, so it's possible that's something you might have missed.
Not sure about your cancellation charges there, but $7 a month instead of the $59 you signed up to sounds a little 'too good to be true' to me, at first glance..
If your figures are correct, You're exactly right about it being $5 cheaper than buying Prepaid and unlocking, that's what I've been thinking of doing, but it'll cost me $929...
Being restricted to Telstra's network due to reception where I live (very rural, they're pretty much the only one with coverage), I've got to figure out whether it's worth $929 to be able to text 5x faster than my current phone and have fast (albeit expensive) internet wherever I need it.. Problem is, with Telstra's network, i'm going to be paying something rediculous like $2/MB when I go over the limit (20MB for $10 a month is my price range...), so it will limit the mobile internet benefit...
The analogy I thought of the other day was when I called 1234 Sensis to get some movie times, cost me $2.05 all together, I could see myself logging on to the GreaterUnion website instead, but the problem is, if I'm over my limit, it's gonna end up costing me more than $2, because I can guarantee that once you get to the actual times for the Cinema you're looking at, you will have used more than 1MB! Yes, you can use the mobile versions of websites, but isn't that the whole idea of the iPhone, you're not meant to have that restriction!
Seems to me like it's an absolutely awesome device extremely limited by a carrier that doesn't understand it's capabilities .etc.. What's everyone else's thoughts??

According to WhistleOut - Compare and Search Mobile Phone Plans in Australia:
For a 8gb
Optus
$19 iPhone Yes Plan
Cost $68.00 per month
Base Plan $19.00 per month
Total Value $14 per month (included calls, text, etc.)
Phone Cost $49 per month
Plan Usage
Contract Length 12 months
Fees $588.00
Total Cost $816.00 (over 12 months)
For a 16gb
Optus
$19 iPhone Yes Plan
Cost $78.00 per month
Base Plan $19.00 per month
Total Value $14 per month (included calls, text, etc.)
Phone Cost $59 per month
Plan Usage
Contract Length 12 months
Fees $708.00
Total Cost $936.00 (over 12 months)
And if I understand correctly, the phone isn't locked on a contract like this.

**Update** MyMac Sydney
Just an update to let everyone know that we have received ALL of our 16GB black rainchecks and have filled all of our oustanding orders. If anyone would like to raincheck a 16GB black post paid SMB we dont have any back orders left in the system.
16GB White- Just received 90 phones for post paid SMB
8GB- Have plenty... for both consumer and SMB
And best of all... NO LINE UPS! Each activation is taking an average of 45min provided you come with all the necessary documentation and id.
More details here

Apple store has everything in stock today, 1hr 40mins from 9am arrival this morning to activated on Optus. They were letting 5 people at a time up to the 1st floor, where about 14 people were in the queue. They check your 100 points of ID whilst you are in the line, giving you photocopies of everything, which you present to the Optus person when you are eventually called.
They are actively pushing the white iPhone on to the people in the line. Plenty of accessories in stock as well (as you'd expect).
