Any places to get them outright in Adelaide?

Both Optus shops at Rundle Mall don't have any.
Crazy Johns and Vodafone do, but won't sell outright/prepaid.

I signed up at optus macquarie centre on saturday for a 16GB black. Signed up for a contract but my number still was'nt activated today. So i called them up and cancelled it considering i didnt have the handset or the number was'nt connected. A word of advise for those on the optus queue. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ACTUALLY IN IT! The mac centre store couldnt even find my form, let alone give me a date of delivery.

Im off to the apple store tomorrow to skip the wait! Can anybody advise what the best time to go is? And how long is the queue?

I am quite sure they don't deliver on weekends according to what the dealers have been saying, but just to be sure...

If u know (or anybody else) the answer, just holla~

I need -> 16gb outright (no colour pref) and unlocked...did u say it was unlocked AT the shop? or the team got ON to it meaning u need 72 hours also?

I really doubt they get stock in during the weekend. Even on weekdays you have to be lucky with your timing as you could go in late morning and they have just sold out, only to receive an afternoon shipment.

Not it was NOT unlocked at the shop. In fact they dind't seem interested at all on telling me about it until I specifically asked. They also provide you with a piece of paper stating the terms (i.e the phone is locked and it will cost $150 to unlock).

The unlocking lady on the phone told me it would take up to 72hrs but it happened in less than 6hrs.

Did the T-life staff member who served you have any reservations when you said you wanted to buy it outright and have it unlocked for use on another network?

(Just don't want to go in there and be jerked around and told I can't do the above as I want to put my work 3 sim card into the iPhone).

Thanks,
Geoff.
No I didn't have to get a SIM Geoff. However they did question me on if I was a Telstra customer and I managed to weasle out of the question without saying I had no intention of going with them.

Given all the reports of people being refused the outright purchase I would advise to maybe pick up the cheapest prepaid Telstra SIM you can get as that is a sure fire way of not being harassed about your intentions. Whatever you do DON'T TELL THEM YOU'RE GOING WITH ANOTHER CARRIER!!

Also if one sales rep refuses to sell just sneak up to another. There are so many of them that you should easily be able to find one.

It's a load of Bull. Seems Telstra has a great unlocking system that is virtually an instant wire transfer to their Swiss bank Account!! You quote your IMEI, punch in your credit card numbers and the automated credit card payment instantly sucks the money out of your credit card. They are making a KILLLING out of their overpriced unlocking!

So I HIGHLY doubt that anyone has ever been refused. I suspect it's yet another ploy to encourage (=scare) people into signing up to them.

Well I picked up my iPhone this morning from the Telstra store in Westfield, Chatswood.

Wanted a pre-pay but they refused to sell me one - I went with a plan because of FREE Wi-Fi access - they confirmed that data on Telstra hot spots is unlimited and does not effect your 3G data limit.

They had only 1 white 16G and about 8 black 8GB this morning - I went for an 8GB one since it's cheaper, will be obsolete in a year and since I am used to working within the limitations of my iPod Shuffle despite having over 41 days of continuous music on my iMac.

I LOVE IT.

Anyone used the Apple Bluetooth headset?

Just be aware guys - The telstra 'unlocking fee' is not something that they can legally charge. If you have purchased a handset outright, they can not charge you an additional fee to unlock the handset from their network - this requirement to unlock means that the 'outright' is misleading.

Contact them and let them know you want your money back.

bastards.

Know where's the best place to get an iPhone on Optus (Postpaid) in Melbourne CBD? MyMac requires ABN and I don't have one so I guess I cannot go there. Which Optus shop has the best chance of having enough iPhone left?

I need any of the 16GB, don't mind the color.

Stock Update

***UPDATE*** My Mac Sydney/ Melbourne

We will be receiving a good shipment of 16GB whites tomorrow for SMB. Optus have raised our allocation since we have been selling through each week. Hooray!

8GB - We have plenty in stock at both locations and we have the go ahead to activate this model to consumers on post paid contracts.

16GB Black- Still on high constraint and available through raincheck only. Rainchecks have been trickling in and at the Sydney location we only have 7 outstanding rainchecks left to fill. So if you have your heart set on black we dont have a big back log.

For more details have a look here

*note only 8GB is available to post paid consumers. 16GB still limited to SMB

So you bought it outright unlocked, they then locked it and will charge 150.00 to unlock it? Not a bad gig.

Just picked mine up from MyMac (16g white), not small business, post paid. It was rainchecked on Monday, July 14 to give you an idea of the delay.

Their iPhone guy is great.

Just ordered my 8GB Black today (24-7-08) at Telechoice Mt Ommaney.

Here was our conversation-

"Hi There, Id like to order the iPhone 3G on prepaid- thats presuming you dont have any stock, do you?"

"Gidday mate, sorry we dont have anystock, but can I take your details?"

"Sure, is this for the raincheck?"

"No, we arent doing rainchecks for prepaid models, just taking your details and we will call you when we have prepaid ones avalible for purchase"

Does this mean I have rainchecked one or not?? I didnt hand over any cash or sign anything, so I have no idea. I really want one ASAP, so if anybody does know anywhere in Brisbane they have walk in Prepaids avalible, let me know!
