$874 + $150 = $1024

Not bad for a phone that only costs $174.33 USD to manufacturer

Sorry for the late reply as I just got home busy busy day at work.

Telstra open the iphone box allows you to be the first to handle it and then they connect to one of thier pc's, unbrick the iphone and load Telstra software on it. You cannot buy a Telstra outright and take it home unopened.

Rang 1800iphone (1800474663) asked for the 'iphone unlocking team', a couple of misdirections when I finally got to the lady who unlock phone there wer a couple of questions; IME number, Name, outright or plan.

I was then put through to an automated billing system which took cred card detail, payment amount. I was then given a receipt number, at this point a live operator cam back on verified the receipt number, she inputted more data from me into the sytsem, and advised me to;
1. wait 72 hours
2. log into itunes and update software
3. should be unlocked.

I have not logged into iteune for the update as 72 hrs have not expired, I will post back on Monday.

I must say the experience with Telstra was outstanding, once i got through to the correct iphone team.

Hope this helps.

I just want to thank barcafc for the heads up. I called up strathfield brunswick this afternoon and they had their last one (white 16gb). grabbed my coat and caught the tram straight there.

apologies to anyone else who was eyeing that same last one. there were at least three other inquiries at the store while they were processing my credit check.

they dont know when they'll get more stock though.

----

going on a tangent here, and since i'm new to mactalk, which thread do we complain about iphone 3g coverage (particularly optus). i feel slightly peeved that the 3g coverage at melbourne university is so bad. i live on campus and even the basic gsm can be a bit buggy.

apart from the service, (and 2.0's slight sluggishness) the iphone's a real gem. wish they'd come out with official iphysics already.

WOW...this place was PACKED full of people buying iPhones and they had TONES of stock with more coming every day...I was out of there after only 5min with my 16GB black outright and even got onto the unlock team on the phone while I was in the shop.

As much as I hate Telstra the process was really easy. To be honest despite cringing at the extra $70 more that they charge for unlock, the fact that it is SOOO easy to get one outright there just makes it a no brainer. The time I would have spent chasing up Optus when they get stock is worth more than that $70.

Sorry Optus, I like your plans but if only you had some damn stock!!
Bravo drzeus!!

I am in the city tomorrow and is thinking about going to pick one up from this...T-life i've heard so much about :P My only questions are, whether they'll have any stock on weekends and whether there are stocks being delivered on weekends. I am quite sure they don't deliver on weekends according to what the dealers have been saying, but just to be sure...

If u know (or anybody else) the answer, just holla~

I need -> 16gb outright (no colour pref) and unlocked...did u say it was unlocked AT the shop? or the team got ON to it meaning u need 72 hours also?

Congrats drzeus,

Did you have to buy a Telstra sim on a basic (maybe called a casual) plan for insertion into the iPhone? If so, how much was that and what was the exact plan you had to purchase.

Did the T-life staff member who served you have any reservations when you said you wanted to buy it outright and have it unlocked for use on another network?

(Just don't want to go in there and be jerked around and told I can't do the above as I want to put my work 3 sim card into the iPhone).

Thanks,
Geoff.

Anyone know of any Telstra shops in Adelaide selling outright? I tried the Rundle Street store, but they will not sell it outright because their stock levels are too low.

Seems most of the "instantly available" stock is isolated in Sydney, whereas here in Melbourne nearly everywhere you go you have the 2 week Optus wait. I'm absoutely dying for my iPhone having just signed up with Optus last night now but figure 1-2 more weeks isnt too much longer since I'm saving about $500 instead of getting the instant purchase from Hellstra. I just don't wanna hear of people now walking in and out of nearby stores who miraculously have stock ahead of me (grr)

We should start a thread devoted to "new hobbies we can take up while we wait for our jesus phone to arrive"

We will only see pre-paid widely available after the initial takeup has well and truly died down. A month or more at my guess.
This policy is really annoying the crap out of me. I have a horrible credit rating so I'm stuck going the outright + prepaid route, so I'm stuck waiting despite having the cash right here to buy it up front.

Optus may think they are getting onto more revenue streams, but they are going to lose some over this too. I am currently a Vodafone customer who Optus was about to steal away, but if this delay takes too much longer I will just be buying an iPhone outright off ebay, unlocking it and staying on Vodafone. In my days in sales I'm fairly certain turning away a customer with a chunk of cash in hand ready to purchase was never a good idea.

i just spoke to a woman at Tlife and she they have plenty of 8GB stock both colours and white 16. She can by outright but gave me the line again we wont guarantee that it can be unlocked. You have to ring and ask and its up to there discretion ! what a load if shit. Does anyone actually know of anyone that had rung Telstra to unlock and be denied. Can they actually do that.
