with all these people waiting for the iPhone, the Apple Store staff must be very busy, that's why it's taking them so long to repair my MB

Im SOOO happy! I purchased my phone from Telstra yesterday about 10am, its been unlocked already and Im using it on 3... anyone worried about stocks, get to T-Life in Sydney, it was a 10min walk in walk out exercise! Unlocking was a breeze and after following instructions, moving over to 3 wasnt hard either.

Hey Meg, did you buy it outright or on a plan?
Congrats for the purchase

Outright, no point in buying on a plan cause I am already on a plan with 3... I was kind of hoping for the best... but it paid off

How did you unlock it so quick Meg? Roughly, at least, what are the instructions? I'm wondering if it is the same process as others have reported in MacTalk forums, because you write that unlock all happened very quickly. eg. Through the give 'em the imei, wait for them (up to 72 hrs they state), then restore using iTunes, which gets your unlock from the Apple server according to the imei, after Telstra sent that imei to Apple to add to their database??? If a different process then that'll be very interesting.

Cool, do they still have 8gb and 16gb? Did you have to wait for long?

I might give a try tonight after work

How much did it cost to unlock?

Some information (whether correct or not - it's what they told me) that I received today from multiple 3rd party stores, was that they currently are not planning to "stock" the iPhone at any stage. They will only take raincheck orders and then order them in. They are not planning on having excess "walk off the street, walk away with the phone" type stock.

On a tangent, at a store that will remain nameless, I overheard a salesman today telling a customer that rather than buying an iPhone (of which they had none in stock), they should buy an iPod touch and a separate mobile phone. They said that the iPod Touch was "exactly the same as the iPhone except you can't make phone calls". The customer asked for clarification, "So, the only difference between them is that the iPhone can make phone calls and the iPod touch can't." The answer was, "Yes, apart from that, they're exactly the same."

MyMac in Sydney (was Apple Centre Bondi Junction) say they have limited stock that's just arrived.

Yeah, I called a few random numbers and got through to the unlocking hotline, I got the impression that this was a new number but i dont have it sorry. Went through the same process, that you stated up there, it could have happened sooner but I only restored it on the off-chance that it was unlocked and hey presto... no idea why it was so quick

Yip, lots of stock apparently, no waiting at all. The unlocking stings a bit at $150 so you are up to $1k for an unlocked 16G but its SOOO worth it, these things are amazing.
