Gonna head down tomorrow lunch time and hope its not in vain...
Picked up a 16gb Black outright around noon (Thursday 17th) $849, wait to be served was about 3 minutes, another 10 minutes to pay and have Telstra software installed duing the unbricking process.

Sales consultant said that there were plenty of 16GB Black and white in stock, didn't ask about 8GB.

Give them a call on 9246 7800 just to be sure, they open at 8am.

Word of caution it does NOT work with a Telstra 3G pre-pay sim, so you will have to fork over the $150 unlocking fee.

I was able to set up and use wi-fi without a proper sim

Good Luck !

Yes you can unbrick them at home. All iphones in the U.S where unbricked at home, and not in store like most did here. The only difference about unbricking at home and in the store, is that in store will put there wep icons on the browser.

Ringing around Strathfield stores in Sydney - the iphones are coming! They have had a few deliveries yesterday and today (all for contract mind you), and they think the prepaid ones should be coming in soon-ish, tho they cant be sure when.

The guys have been very helpful though. If you are willing to shell out the cash straight away and play the waiting game, I would recommend them highly.

I'm a very happy woman.

Well since im Under 18 I cant get one my self and my Dad is too busy to go and line up outside the apple store. So he's saying wait a few weeks and you can just get one by just Walking in and Walking out with the phone.

I've waited over 5 months for this and now more waiting

OK so it is possible, but do they (Telstra) allow us to do that? and what happen if i put Voda sim on the first activation with the phone bought from Telstra?

That's weird. Cos I called up a Telstra shop on George St (syd) and they said they don't sell iphones "outright". She said they don't cos they've "gotta be locked to a telstra plan anyway". Perhaps outright's only for Melb?

I've given up on trying to get my hands on an iPhone 16gb on prepaid. I tried the optus store at hunter this morning, and they got none as well. And the ebay prices are too high and it's not worth it.

If someone is willing to let go his/her black 16gb iPhone for 900, drop me a message and we'll talk.

If anybody in Melb today has PICKED UP their PREPAID iPhone 3G, could they please take some time to post their experience, location of store and size of model please?

If the information could flow, perhaps we could have some peace of mind.

Could you please tell me when the second person and third person arrived in line?

Thanks

From what i can tell. If they unbrick it in store, it locks the phone onto there network. If you unbrick it at home, I would think it would not lock the phone to anyone.
