Optus Business plans to be announced July 28th
Got an email from a Optus business/corporate rep which I will grab the interesting bits out of now...

Business plans for iPhone wont be released till the 28th July, so if your patient enough to wait the extra 2 weeks you will be more than satisfied with a far better deal on the phone after the hype of the first two weeks has subsided a little. Call me directly and Ill make sure of that. Make sure your respond with your contact details so I can reserve one aside for you because their will be a national shortage very soon. Optus have already presold 60,000 iphone handsets which is almost the entire first shipment to Australia so register with me to get hold of one of our reserved ones. (we pre ordered 500 of them for sale by BDMs on best plans)
|
So, the 9,000 for all Aus looks bogus right now.. and who knows how many phones you'd need to order on a plan to get this "far better deal".

Pre-sold 60,000 ????? to who??? I think there's a big stretch between paying a $100 totally refundable deposit or just registering your details and having 60,000 pre-sold. More telco crapola if you ask me.

I think the 60,000 is just registered interest.

Pre sold to other resellers maybe?
Don't know, the numbers being quoted on pre sales are totally all over the place.

The talk that Optus had 50-60,000 pre-orders (from a population of 20 million) sounds out of whack to me on the high side. Compare this to the original iPhone which only sold 200,000 units in total on the first day in the whole of the US (population 300 million) and add to this that Optus is only one of three carriers - it just don't make sense!

i paid my deposit at 4:00 pm on launch day, the deposit option was taken off the following morning, my deposit number is 3500...ish, so maybe it was 5000 or 10000?

Which is why 60000 people who merely registered interest makes more sense. Roughly 2/3 of those people will go to the other carriers, many will not be able to sign a contract or afford the prepaid price, and many probably had no intention of getting it day 1.

So the "Optus business/corporate rep" claiming that Optus have already pre-sold 60,000 iphones has to be excrement.
