I just rang Optus to check the status of my delivery and there is good news and bad news.
The good news is that I won't be paying any fees until I ask for my existing Vodafone number to be ported to the Optus network.
The bad news is, they reckon delivery won't be until 1 August, farkn!!!

i just spoke to ow people and they dont know much about it yet. but i called optus SMB and they said that the plans are just temporary. and that if u connect to the consumer plan for now, after one month they will change you to the proper business plans. which will have the benefits of the "real" business plans and also include data. i bloody hell hope that this indian guy i spoke to told me solid information. i think *hopefully* that this IS just temporary, why would they have business and consumer plans exactly the same. thats just stupid and will lose iphone business customers.

if you read the faq on the iphone optus site. under visual voicemail it says:
Q: Will Visual Voicemail be on the new iPhone in Australia?
A: Visual Voice Mail will not be available at time of launch.
to me that it seems that they wil eventually have visual voicemail just not now.
i think ill just wait another month or so till i get my damn iphone. well, until the proper business plans are out and save me the hassle of changing things when the proper plans are out.

Well why would they offer even better plans on business? The facts are that they've probably so far grabbed 80% of the iphone market with their regular plans.

to help business save some cash? offer them different benefits to the regular consumer plans? business that has multiple phones can share their monthly credit? free sms and calls to numbers on the same business account?
why shouldnt they offer plans that is more catered to business?
i dont own a business but it helps us save money calling or text messaging each other. also they have way better call rates 11c or 10c per 30/s.

I ordered my business iPhone thru Optus on Monday. Or more specifically, signed up to a consumer plan, with all my business details in tact.
And like posts above, was told that when the business plans are announced, they will actively contact me about rolling onto one.
As I have a 1st gen iPhone, I have already started my contract, as the data plan is heaps better than what I was on.
I was also told stock would be mid August (16gb black).

I have already bought my 16 gig white iPhone on the $49 consumer cap, no problems there - but as I run a small business with ABN and a wish to be on the SMB plan, this would be perfect.
I asked at the Eastlands store and they said you can change over to the business plans when they're released (and move up if I wish) - I'm hoping there's no payout fee/changeover fee involved, considering i'm thinking of going to the $59 anyway.
But here's a point - if the plans are the same (which doesn't make sense) - when and if they change and get more features, would Optus allow your plan to encompass those changes (eg Visual Voicemail and any other benefits they might introduce ?)

Same here when I got my iphone on launch day the guy who put my phone contract through was a manager I believe, and he said I will be able to switch to the business plan from normal when they come out as I registered my ABN with them during sign up. He said the plans are about the same but the calls are normally about 11c per 30sec and you get free calls to others on you business account.
