O2 iPhone Prepaid will be available later this year.
I got all excited this morning The O2 website was taking preorders. Then upon further inspection, the Pay & Go iPhones will be available "later this year."

I want to cry. Goddammit. Now i have to get my friend to buy one in Australia for me and unlock it. GRRR.

EDIT: Carphonewarehouse is saying that the pay as you go option (prepaid) will be out before Christmas.

GODDAMNIT. I WANT TO GO HOME!

I think O2 would be idiots of they didn't get this out as soon as possible, otherwise there are going to be hoards of people flocking to Australia, unlocking their phones and coming straight back. Either that, or getting friends over here to do it for them.

I'd give them a month, two at most. They'll realise their mistake, and put more effort into getting this out ASAP.
