Optus switches on 3G in Darwin!
Just caught an interesting news story - apparently Optus has just switched on 3G in the Darwin area!.. Fantastic news for those looking to get wireless broadband and iphone 3G!..
I think Vodafone will also introduce 3G (end of year), but at the mo its choice between optus and telstra when it comes to using 3g on the iphone..
Any mactalkers in the Darwin area?

Congrats Darwin-ites.
That will make your choices a little easier for the iPhone.

I travel up there a bit for work - good to see some options, although I'm a slave to the Telstra corporate spin-cycle (for now).

Any word on whether it's 900Mhz or 2100Mhz? Cos it might too little, too late for the iPhone if it's 900!

Remember guys, Optus 3G is both 2100Mhz and 900Mhz in terms of their network frequency. iPhone only supports the 2100Mhz so it won't be a 3G network if it's a 900Mhz network in Darwin.

Just checked the coverage maps..
Optus - About Optus - NT
It confirms that the urban areas use 2100Mhz, but regional areas appear to use the 900Mhz spectrum..
Got me worried for a sec.. :-)

I'm waiting on the Vodafone plans before committing to Optus; but only reason is that I plan on moving interstate in the next few months. Other than that optus is the way to go, as I don't hold out much hope for Telstra plans.

The Optus 3G coverage actually started up here on June 30th, though Officially only on Monday this week I believe. As mentioned above it's 2100mhz in the main metro area out to Palmerston, then 900mhz in the rural area.
Vodafone I believe will only be rolling out 900mhz up here.
