iPhone shortages / availability on July 11

So.. Considering that Optus have gone with the depositing scheme have a better chance of getting an iPhone than those that didn't go with a deposit...

To the rest of you.. do you think there's going to be a massive shortage of the iPhones in your states? Okay, how many deposits gone through with Optus, 20,000? 30,000? how many iPhones will telstra have? 4,500? Apple did announce that they're making 10,000,000 iPhones in the first wave.. Who's to say also that they're not making more as we speak.. even though the bloody phone ain't released yet!!!

Considering Adelaide isn't as forward/progressive as say Sydney/Melbourne.. alas we don't have the population.. I think it's 50/50.. Maybe in the first week anyone could go to any of the stores and get one, OR NOT! I guess the point to this topic, is all about shortages/backorders.. Will we see the same thing happen to the iPhone like the Wii? time will tell I guess...

My only reason for concern is that I'm in need of a new phone soon (mine's on it's way out), and well I COULD get a prepaid one, but that's another $200 to spend just to stay in touch.. I rather get a phone I'd want to keep for 1-2 years y'know? Okay, floor is yours folks! One week to go (from posting this thread).

I think Optus will run out (with their pre-ordering scheme) but Voda and Telstra will be fine.

I'm sure there will be shortages but personally I don't mind waiting. My 3310 still makes calls just fine.

I really don't think you have to worry that much. I'm sure the iPhone will be popular, but it's not like every single person in Australia is going to be trying to get their hands on one on July 11.

Buy a crappy phone to use in the mean time. $69. Backup phone.

Then once the dust settles get the 3G. Unless they are available immediately.

I'm going to go 3G but if it's not available on Day 1, I won't be losing any sleep - I have my crappy phone to use in the mean time, for calls/texting.

I think there WILL be stock shortages.

It'll be interesting to see how much stock piffling little kiosk type places like Telechoice get.

I also wonder if the actual phones themselves will be identically packaged... and it'll just be the type of SIM you get etg pre-paid or post-paid. So they'll just get heaps of phones and then depending on if the customer want's pre or post.

I think between Optus, telstra and Vodafone Perth has been assigned 1 iphone for July 11th. I think the three carriers are looking at a timeshare option, Optus will have it january, april, july, otocber, then Vodafone will have it february, may, august, november leaving telstar with march, june, septmebr, december. - the carriers wil then devide their altted months into time units per customers.

I cant wait I have my 3 seconds of phone time booked for august 8th at 2:17.57 am - now who can I call???

I reckon the entire world will get the same iPhone and it's up to the providers to slap in a SIM when the customer signs up for a contract. Hence why there's a "SIM eject tool" in the box
