Yes worry. :P
Apple purposely are releasing just enough iPhones so they run out quickly. Then the hype is built up whilst people wait....more people get involved by word of mouth and interaction with the first iphone 2.0 buyers...hopefully get a few more customers release the next batch of 2.0 iPhones and then the cycle continues...it always happens like this with apple.

Umm, no it doesn't.
The first iPhone in the US was still available in stores the next day. There's never been any stock issues with other products either, usually because there's no set release date.

when you consider that the iphone is being released to multiple carriers in multiple countries on the same day. I mean, how many units do you think apple would have stockpiled.
Looking back to the release of the original i-pod. There where huge shortages when they first came out, stockist couldn't order them. I had to scour the coast for mine.
And as far as the Optus deposits that have been paid. I think a lot of those people will miss out initially as well.
Patience people.

I'm regretting not having paid a deposit with Optus now that their plans have come out - in hindsight I was really only holding out for Three to make an announcement.
I think there will be shortages - I just cannot imagine how there wouldn't be as I can't think of a product which has gone through this kind of hype and large scale global release.
There are 5 or so Optus stores in Wollongong - I can't imagine that they'll all be stocked full of iPhones on 11 July. Selected locations in major centers yes, local shopping centers no.

I would think it would it have to be locked by Apple before shipping to the retailer, meaning that there's carrier-specific stock. Unless the unbricking process instore adds network locking, which seems unlikely.

I'd buy tickets to that. Tell me where you are going to be lining up and I'll come and join you!
When you are starting this rant, I'll start whispering to people: "Oh wow, I've heard of that guy. He is WAY important and influential."

I'm going to try my luck. If I have to wait, I'll use my Motorola V6 happily in the meantime.

More than zero and less than enough.
We only have the cost of plans from one of the three known telcos so it would be a bit of a stretch to know how many they are carrying. Overall we'll be a far lower priority than the US and Europe so I'm guessing there won't be enough available for all those who want one until the Xmas buying period.

Where did you get 8M from?
There have been multiple reports of delays to production. I'm beginning to suspect there will be issues on launch day.
Pretty much going to line up now.

Read it somewhere, TUAW or maybe on the forum here...8,000,000 sounds believable though.

iPhone availability on 11 July
So, I think the story on Friday is going to be all about availability.
There are multiple rumors about Optus store staff saying 'limited availability' 'pre-orders only'
More stories about it only being in selected T Life stores.
Further comments about 'the next shipment' in August or 'late August'.
Not heard anything about Vodafone however.
What's everybody think?
