Just being absolutely sure.

Well there will be two queues, one for deposit holders, and one for everyone else.
Anyone who hasn't got a deposit will not even be served until the deposit line is completely empty.

No that doesn't make any sense. Deposit holders get priority all day. Doesn't that mean that if the store had 10 deposit holders and 10 phones, it'll wait some reasonable time, say 24 hours before serving you? Deposit holders get priority right? I mean, the stores that i've called have all said that they will only have enough for their deposit holders! in your scenerio, it is entirely possible that a deposit holder that only goes down to the nominated store at lunchtime missing getting a unit... which doesn't seem to sit right with me.
Anyone else agree?

The way I've come to understand it is that Deposit holders will get priority service all day, having a deposit doesn't 'hold' a phone for you as such. If your not there and someone without a deposit is at the store with no other deposit holders present... then the iPhone is his/hers/its.

The email that was sent out today says Priority all day. I assumed that meant that there will be two queues. When the deposit queue is empty, they will serve people in the non-deposit queue until someone turns up with a deposit, and then they will get served next.
They wont be holding phones for anyone on launch day.

From the Email Optus sent:
Quote:
July 11 launch day: priority service for deposit holders
Due to the incredible demand for the new iPhone 3G, on launch day stores will give priority entry to those who left a holding deposit. Deposit Holders will have access to priority queuing all day over non deposit holders and gain entry into participating stores 2 hours before general opening.
|
Now im not a deposit holder so I am virtually guaranteed not to get an iPhone through Optus on Launch day, so in that case, I have to hope Vodafone may revise their plans that were released earlier today or that Telstra offer something half decent.

It's deposit priority, so if the there are two customers, a deposit person, and another, then the deposit will be served. If the two customers don't have deposits, there is no one to give priority to, so it's whoever came first.

No, one night of less sleep to get the iPhone a month or two early? Its damn worth it. Especially as more and more countries are going to get the iPhone (including China by the end of the year), if there are shortages with the first shipment there are likely to be shortages with the one after as well.

If you don't have a deposit, I wouldn't even bother queuing. I think they'll be scrapping the bottom of the barrel as it is just to fulfil their quota for the deposit holders.

Awesome, considering my dad has secretely put in a deposit ages ago with Optus for me...sneaky. Now I have to tell him to take advantage of that and get up at 7

Are you sure? Don't you have to charge it up first after you unbox it? Or do they unbox and charge all of them overnight?
