Ugh, called Allphones at Tea Tree Plaza and they gave me pretty much the same response that Optus and Telechoice gave me this morning- you have to go to the store that you nominated to get the iPhone.
Called back TeleChoice at Golden Grove and they said they would be selling iPhones to those only who are deposit holders from 7am to 10am. 10am onwards they will be selling all of the phones to the general public. Which is different to the opening time which is on here... Optus iPhone - Store Search

I don't know if anyone has covered this, and it would take quite a while to read through all the previous posts about the iPhone release on Friday, but here is some information I got from a mate that works at both the Optus World Stores in Eastland and Northland in Victoria.
- There are supposed to be 60 iPhones allocated to every Optus World Store.
- When purchased, the iPhone has to be "Un-Bricked" (his term that was used in the orientation process for Optus employees)
- If you are signing up for one of the Post-Paid Contracts, the entire process will take roughly 30mins.
- If you are getting a phone Outright (and I presume this means Pre-Paid then Unlocked for $80) it will take roughly 15mins.
- The iPhone should work immediately from when you walk out of the store.
- Don't ask if you can get your deposit reimbursed as that's being done by Optus, and can't be done by the Optus World Stores (if your deposit hasn't already been reimbursed)
He's expecting that most stores would sell out, and that because of the Setup process delays that it could take up till midday to process all iPhones in a Store.
Also Some of this is speculated as None of the Store Employees have been able to be trained on Actual iPhones, but only Emulators.
Personally... I'm planning to turn up to my local Optus World at about 6am to get a (hopefully) decent place in the queue.

Yeah, I had a few Optus resellers opening up at 7 and 8 am, but on the site, one is listed as 9am and the other's not even listed as participating! LOL. My hope is that store, they have the banners up, and the lady's confident they will get stock...just when (possibly tomorrow night) and how much (not really sure) are the questions.

The site isn't totally accurate. My Mate that works at Northland and Eastland said that the Eastland store would be definitely opening at 7am for the deposit holders (and the website only says 9am)

Funny. I called the Northland optus world and asked, would you have any iPhone on sale on Friday? The answer is no. She did not even ask if I have paid a deposit or not.

Last in first out???
This is a comment directed at the person that stated "first in best dressed" - what exactly does that mean? Does it mean that at 9am, when its open to the general public they will start serving the non-deposit holders? what happens when you're midway through doing it an a deposit holder waltzes up? do you get booted off? I just want to know for sure, even better would be what you asked the operator itself.
Sorry for sounding a bit tart, but what you said has been bouncing around in my head for quite awhile, and I finally figured out what was bugging me about it.

So realistically, nothing special was said? if there was no spare phones aside from those reserved for the deposit holders you wouldn't get one cos they get priority all day? So in other words, unless the store has 60 deposit holders and 70 phones, then you'd get a shot?
Just being absolutely sure.
