I looked at their coverage map for Sydney but it wasn't very detailed just a wash of orange, even where my wife's boss lives who has no reception at home. I live in Bellevue Hill, Eastern Suburbs.

So which store is expecting me on Friday?
Of course Optus make no mention of store preferences and they make it sound like anyone can go to any store, which would solve my problem, but then why are so many people being told be stores that they only have stock for people who nominated the store?
I really just want to avoid queueing from 3am to find that some misinformed store won't give me a phone...
Where do I go?!?!

mate - if you don't have coverage i'd be extremely surprised, also check your wife's bosses handset - it could be dodgy or the fact that she knows about his mobile coverage at home could be worse.... (jokes)
i can't foresee you having a problem....

I just spoke to three stores in my area (Ringwood, VIC) and all basically said if you did not pay the deposit, there is a VERY slim chance of getting an iPhone. Strathfield said they were giving priority to deposit holders, and so was Telechoice (both stores in Mitcham)
The only hope was OptusWorld in Ringwood. The guy on the phone, who was really helpful, said that there would be a slim chance of getting one. So looks like I'm off to OptusWorld... bet it will be mad as hell!

Hey, I'm wondering, does anyone know if you get charged roaming fees wen on GPRS, or will it be included innthe normal data?
I can't find any reference to this, other then that you will drop back to GPRS out side Optus 3G areas in the Terms.
It may have been mentioed in the forum previously, but I have not seen it, granted I have not had time to read everything...

I would be willing to bet that on Telstra, Optus or Voda you would not. (as they own their own entire networks) I know for a fact now, that i dont get charged for using GPRS outside of a 3G area with my current telstra plan.
As far as i know the only network that has GPRS roaming within australia is 3, because they use someone elses towers outside of their 3G area.
But, once again none of that is certain. I would ring optus and ask the question just to be sure.

im pretty sure you don't get charged - there is a mention that 3G speeds are only available in 3G areas - in other areas the speed drops back to GPRS - there is no mention of you getting charged for that

I just called my optus store and the guy I spoke to was really helpful, it was optus world modbury. basically h first asked if i was a deposit holder, i said no and then he said that what optus are doing is getting people to sign up to plans on the day (and he said something about a credit check) and then they will order the phone from apple, which will take about a week and a half to arrive, optus will give me a call when it arrives and ill have to come and pick it up. so i guess i won't be getting mine till about the 20th, meh i can live with that

That sounds like the info I got from one of the Canberra stores I rang too. However, the guy I spoke to was less certain of the time it would take to fulfil my order. He was talking more in terms of weeks, rather than 10 days.
We'll see.
