Hmmm, it certainly looks like Optus will have the best plans, but I don't think they've handled the whole deposit and July 11 situation very well.

No, I got the email, and I'm not a deposit holder.
I'm a bit disappointed by the focus on deposit holders. And the email is certainly worded on the basis they expect to sell out very quickly.

Well, it is fair enough, and if stock levels are tight then those that were happy to cough up for a deposit should be rewarded.
Seemed like a dumb idea at the time, but I kinda wish I had paid a deposit now, haha.

OK got an email from optus, looks my local one (miranda) is getting stock but I don't think I'll take my chances and Ill just head to the city. Maybe I need to get one parent at miranda and one at the city, do you think they'll go for that?

i also just received the email and i'm not a deposit holder.
I still wonder how much of a beat up this "short demand" is... there has been barely none external talk about when its going on sale, when i typed in the post code for my stores, a few of them have staggered openings, 7am,8am,9am. Apart from the "techno nuts" who pre registered who else is likely to show up?

Ahh, just checked email again and I now have one for non-deposit holders. There are some differences between both. Is it worth me posting both for comparison?
Second email makes it sound as though it will be very hard to pick up an iPhone without a deposit!
EDIT: Here are both emails, so those that only received one can compare the differences. If they are taking up to much room, feel free to ask me to re-edit and remove again.
To deposit holders:

Hi Brad,
July 11 is fast approaching. As a deposit holder, July 11 is all about you. We have some big news to share with you, so read carefully!
Sydney midnight store opening - Optus mobile customers with holding deposits only
Can't wait to get your hands on your new iPhone 3G? To celebrate the launch of iPhone 3G, we will be opening our Optus World store at 280 George Street Sydney at 12.00am on July 11.
So if you're planning to be in Sydney on July 11 and you're an existing Optus Mobile Customer who left a holding deposit, you have a fantastic opportunity to be one of the first in Australia to get your new iPhone 3G.
iPhone 3G
Join us early on the yellow carpet as we camp out throughout the evening. With free food and the odd guest celebrity popping in, we'll make your countdown to happiness as enjoyable as possible.
To be eligible, please bring with you:
* A printed copy of your deposit receipt and;
* Your current Optus mobile phone service that you will be upgrading to iPhone 3G.
Click here to print your midnight opening checklist.
Please remember - if you are not a current Optus Mobile customer you will not be able to be served at the midnight opening
Additional early store openings and priority queuing
Don't worry if you can't make it to the midnight opening. As a deposit holder you are entitled to 2 hours early store opening at participating stores. And that's not all. You'll also be given exclusive access to our priority queuing service all day on July 11 at participating stores. This means when you arrive at a participating store you will be placed in a priority queue for deposit holders only and will be served before all other non-deposit holders.
If you're in Melbourne or Brisbane, we'll be rolling out the yellow carpet prior to the 7.00am store opening at our Chadstone store in Melbourne and our Queens St store in Brisbane. So if you can make it, join us for the countdown.
Remember, stock is strictly limited. Your holding deposit does not guarantee you an iPhone 3G on July 11. We're expecting some long queues on the day, so plan to get there early. Based on the feedback we received from our last email correspondence, we have done our best to ensure that participating stores are available in an area that suits you.
To view a list of participating stores and store opening hours click here.
To print your 11 July launch day checklist click here.
Things you all need to know for July 11
* As a deposit holder, July 11 is about you. You'll have the opportunity to get into a participating store 2 hours early (or attend the midnight opening in Sydney if you're a deposit holder with a current Optus Mobile), and you will be served before non-deposit holders all day.
* Stock is strictly limited. Your deposit does not guarantee you an iPhone 3G.
* If you are currently on a contract, you may face early cancellation fees. You should check with your current mobile service provider so there are no surprises.
* Bring 100 points of ID - photo ID (eg. Australian driver license, Australian passport etc.) plus at least one other form of secondary identification (eg. current gas or electricity account, medicare card, etc.)
* Refunding your deposit - we will automatically return your holding deposit to the same credit card that was used by July 16. Refunds cannot be made on the day and cannot be made to your Optus account or other place.
* Have a think about what pricing plan you want to take CustomerConnect - Optus CustomerConnect .
* Get in early!
Thanks,
The Optus Team

To non-deposit holders (but have registered interest)

Hi Brad,
The July 11 launch is fast approaching! Here are a few things you should know about the big day.
July 11 launch day: priority service for deposit holders
Due to the incredible demand for the new iPhone 3G, on launch day stores will give priority entry to those who left a holding deposit. Deposit Holders will have access to priority queuing all day over non deposit holders and gain entry into participating stores 2 hours before general opening.
iPhone 3G
How can I get an iPhone 3G from Optus?
Not a deposit holder?
Don't worry, you'll get your chance to get your hands on a new iPhone 3G from Optus. Stock is strictly limited, though here are a few ways to get your iPhone 3G from Optus as early as possible.
1. Try your luck and turn up to one of our participating stores on July 11
If you want to try your luck, turn up to a participating store on July 11. Please remember deposit holders will receive priority queuing on launch day so you will only get the opportunity to purchase once all deposit holders are processed.
To view a list of participating stores click here.
2. Leave an order in store
Your nearest participating store can take pre-orders from July 11 onwards. In the event of stock shortages, customers that pre-order will be given priority allocation in future iPhone 3G shipments.
We recommend pre-ordering from July 12 when all customers will be able to queue on a 'first in, first served' basis.
Important: Online and call centres
There will be no iPhones available from our online shop or sales call centres from launch. We will advise you via email when these channels commence stocking the iPhone 3G.
We understand how excited you are about the iPhone 3G from Optus and we really want you to be with Optus. We hope this information helps you plan ahead and avoid any disappointment on launch day.
Thank you and good luck!
The Optus Team

See I'm going to do option a and try my luck. I honestly think they are just trying to make everyone stay home so the deposit holders get it. No thanks :P

Hey, noob poster here, be nice
Anyone got solid info on what's happening with the store nomination? I nominated the little optus reseller in my little town, and no surprise, they're not stocking on July 11.
Problem is that I've called a few stores and have gotten conflicting stories (big surprise), and some are saying that they're only holding phones for people who selected their store. Does this mean I'm screwed? Optus' email makes it sound like you can go to any store, but I'm still a bit worried.
All these store owners better be properly informed by Friday... =S
Btw on the emails - seems to be two, one sent to all pre-regers and another sent to only deposit-payers... Does this sound right?
Roll on Friday!

Got the same email as posted for deposit holders. Looks like the Brisbane Queen St mall Store is having some entertainment prior to opening at 7am.
