Sounds good for you macrich. I got the Optus email too, but seeing as how I didn't drop the $100 deposit, I didn't get to nominate a store location ... just the type of device I wanted and whether pre-paid or contract (from memory).

Looks like my other options better come good.

It'll be an early morning that's for sure. Getting into the city for a 7am opening.

I'll be lining up around 5am for 9am (as I don' have the damn pre-order). I'll just bring the MB and a spare battery and watch a couple of movies.

This is my logic at the moment too. I'll probably get there around 4:30am, but if I'm doing that, why not just stay there the night instead? I'll need to find someone to stay company with though :P

Yeah, it's not good going there alone (going on my past line experience, heh). It will totally *suck* being outside in Melbourne, it's been freezing the past few days.

I think it might be best to camp out overnight in the CBD, as that's where the most people will be (and hopefully the right amount of stock too).

I will be keeping an eye on what others are doing, heh

My local Optus dealer has no idea, in fact I'm not even sure the guy who I called knew what an 'iPhone' was. So I guess I'll wait for the email before I make any plans, eh?

From all available information it looks like it's best to treat the release as a version x.0.0 one and so wait a month or so for everyone else to use it and discover the problems. By that time the rest will be able to compare the available plans to see which is the best and not have to deal with a crush at stores.

It's the older people like me who aren't that concerned with having the latest gadget the second it's available who are hated by retailers

stopped by an optus store in the city yesterday and the sales rep said they were planning to open at 7am for pre-registered customers and 9am for regular customers.

went into the vodafone shop next door and the lady there said that they would get information 3 days prior to launch...

I doubt there'll be many problems and most of any possible problems will be firmware related.
