Data Danger!!
The big problems for me from the Terms and Conditions are:
Excess Data Charges, not throttling, per MB or [b]part thereof[b] (eg 1.1MB is charged as 2mb)
combined with:
"Data usage" ... "includes both uploads and downloads."
combined with:
"You are not able to view your monthly usage prior to receiving your bill. If you exceed the included value of these services in any one billing period, standard rates of your plan will apply."
Ouch!
Due to the above, I'm holding out for Voda, atleast you can send them a free SMS and see how much of your caps is left... hopefully their plans are better or similar at least...

I've been wondering about data usage, so I thought I'd do a bit of googling for a calculator.
I found one here: Bandwidth Calculator (Calculate Monthly Bandwidth Usage, GB/month)
Based on its defaults - 3000 page visits a month(!) + some other stuff I added in (emails and IM conversations) I'm doing about 260MB a month, include uploads and its probably about 300.

Yeah I expect us to get an email Monday about it, with a list of stockists based on demand. (I hope my local boonies Telechoice gets enough stock, and it's not the kind of place I'd expect a queue). I guess we'll print out our receipts, bring our credit cards and other ID bits and pieces, and bring them along.
I'm not taking this as a sign we've been knocked back. I'm 15 months into my existing contract, but it's not exactly a showstopper.
I'm with the ANZ, they tend to process EFT very quickly.

What do these receipts look like? I have Photoshop here, and now have a heap of numbers I can put in.

Question: With the data plans/amounts... would the 500mb limit count downloads & uploads?

Just got mine back too:
I guess Optus can't deliver what they promised? They shot their load too early with the whole preorder thing?

Nobody knows and it looks like everyone's getting them, so I have no idea why people are getting upset about it. The iPhone is free on pretty much all the plans remember, so there's no need for them to keep your deposit, you'd be getting it back anyway.

Just spoke to a staff member at Optus World store in Dapto.
I asked if they were likely to carry the phone in Dapto and she said
"The problem is most of the stock has already been sold, and we won't be getting any more until August"

Did you ask her "how"??? They weren't supposed to be -pre-ordering except with the official Optus deposit thingy.
Does this mean they're going to be holding pre-held devices for the $100/$50 clients? Now I'm confused.

" If you are able to access such services, your use of such services will be charged at prevailing rates. Data usage will be counted in kilobytes, where 1024kb = 1MB and includes both uploads and downloads."
CustomerConnect - Optus CustomerConnect
Uploads are about 1:4 to 1:6 ratio (so, for 400 MB download its about 50 to 100 MB uploads)

We don't know what it means! Does it mean there will still be an iPhone for me on launch day? How exactly did this deposit bring me closer to having an iPhone? Did it mean anything at all? Is it just going to be a free-for-all on Friday?

Seriously though, while Optus could be randomly cancelling our queue-jumper privileges (and that's all we had), there's nothing we can do about it. My guess is the deposit club get an email update on Monday.
/Trying to be zen either way.
