would it be possible to just 'upgrade' my handset to the iphone since my contract is going to be finished? and also if possible to add the 500mb bonus data to it since it doesnt have that on my current plan? im on a 39 business yes plan atm and i want to share my credit and data with the other phone.
or signing up to an 'iphone plan' is the only way to get the iphone?

fleet time meaning the SmartFleet (Free calls, SMS and MMS 24 x 7 to other mobiles on your business account) ?
if you check out the business cap plans on the optus site it has smartfleet but not the noncap business yes plans.

Is it possible that the refunds are a routine thing: they promised to refund everyone within five days. Since so many more people than expected pre-registered, they are covering themselves by starting the refunds early. There is probably some considerable work involved in this, banking systems are not 100% automated yet. And there would be a huge outcry if people were not refunded by the 16th/17th.
Unless they are specifically emailing refunded people to notify them that they are now "off the list" it sounds not too much to worry about.

No-one knows Reubania. No details from Optus. They just started to randomly refund people's deposits tonight.
Maybe they heard these particular people poo-poo'ing their plans?!
I'm sure it's just Optus starting the refund process early. If they were being mean about it, they will pee off so many people!

How interesting. My Optus buddy didn't elude to this when we talked tonight. Will have to ask him to find out for me.

I'm expecting the refund...it's not there yet, but my account appears to be $100 in credit. The statement side should appear later this morning.
I am with the Commonwealth, number 5xxx and not a current Optus subscriber.
At this stage, it looks like I will go with Optus but I will still check out what Vodafone have to offer. My thought was that if someone could guarantee me a 16GB iPhone 3G on the day then they would have my business.
I will be most upset if I miss out on the 16th. I would line up all night but I'd want to ensure that I had company since I am female. It seems more likely that I will turn up at around 7am.

I just looked back over the last ~200 posts and there's no rhyme or reason to who's been "refunded" and who hasn't. It doesn't seem to matter who's an Optus customer already and who isn't, which bank it's with or what your invoice number is.
Just an idea: is it possible that the people who are being "refunded" are those who have used a credit card (as opposed to a debit card) and the authorisation is just expiring? (i.e the bank has not received a finalised request for the funds and they are therefore being released) Maybe those who used a debit card will have theirs manually refunded after the 11th.

Regarding the data amounts in the plans, I am not so sure that 1 gig shouldn't have been the minimum an not the maximum. Doing the rounds on Google to find out the experience of Americans, 500, 700, to 2-3gb seems very easy to chew up in a month.
I am just hoping the unlimited free month of data Optus are offering to start with is just their way to gauge what real iPhone data usage is.
I also hope when they get the real statistics that they do a back flip and open up the data more.
1 gig max just doesn't cut it and who needs $1200 -$1500 worth of calls just to get it, let alone $150 bill a month.
Plus I think one has to keep in mind that they will count both upload and download in the usage.

It would be interesting to see the correlation between refunds and existing customers current Plans.

Our whole family has 4 mobiles with optus, as well as home phone and internet. my dad is ringing optus today regarding canceling my contract. We have been loyal optus customes for over 4 years. Any chance of getting a lowered cancellation fee? Dad is VERY good at dealing...
