Can anyone explain these points to me?
From their terms and conditions:
‘yes’ iPhone $19, $49, $59, $79, $89, $149, $179 Cap plans: Pay the first ‘cap plan’ worth of national voice calls and text, international SMS, VoiceMail, each billing period, after which these services are free up to a maximum of the ‘included value’ per billing period. You will pay the ‘minimum cap’ amount each month even if you do not make calls to that value. For the part month, you will pay only part of the minimum spend and you will also receive only part of the Cap amount. You are not able to view your monthly usage prior to receiving your bill. If you exceed the ‘included value’ of these services in any one billing period, standard rates of your plan will apply.
Does this mean that you can't ever view your usage to see if you are spending too much? What does part month mean?
The ‘yes’ iPhone Cap Plans also includes a specified amount of included data value per month to access services on Optus iZoo, as well as browsing the Internet from your mobile, depending upon which rate plan you choose. If you exceed your plan’s included monthly data allowance, excess usage charges will be charged at $0.35 per MB or part thereof. Any unused data allowance cannot be rolled over. Your data allowance does not include services such as Voice calls, Voice Mail, International SMS, premium and Third Party SMS, Optus iZoo and Third Party content and applications, 1300, 1900 and VPN data usage.
Exclusions: The ‘yes’ iPhone Cap Plan included value excludes 124 YES (937), International Voice, International Roaming and Diversion, calls to MobileSat, Premium SMS, Optus iZoo Browsing, Optus iZoo Downloads, Content packs, Mobile Internet Usage, 966* Zoo, Directory Assistance, VOIP services and usage, Premium Video, Operator Assistance, and 19XX services. Normal charges apply for those calls and services that are not part of the included value.
How come in the first line it says that you can use your data allowance for iZoo but on the last line it says you can't? Do the applications they refer to mean GPS or anything we get from the Apple store?
Downloading Music to your Apple iPhone: To download music to your Apple iPhone you will require iTunes with a broadband connection.
Isn't that just connecting with the iPhone?
Rate Plan Change: After the first 6 months of your contract, once a month you may change to another Optus Mobile Rate Plan with a lower monthly access fee at Optus' discretion for the remaining term of your contract. We may charge you a fee if you move from one pricing plan to another before the end of your minimum term.
So anyone thinking about getting a lower cap to start off with might get stung and can't upgrade for 6 months!
BTW you only get free voicemail with the Yes plan, you have to pay to listen to voicemail on the cap plans

I wonder if Optus will be me bolt on one of their bigger 3G data packs?. Like the one they offer with the 3G USB modem. I think it's 5gb for $49 or something like that.
Or maybe let me combine the two into one data bundle so I can have 5gb spread over both. Now that would be nice......

No different to the way the system works at the moment.
P.S according to business sales at Optus
|
According to the Business sales agent I spoke to, they will start to call around on the 11th, meaning that there WILL be a business plan available on the day. Just not sure if it'll be released before the 11th. They'll courier the handset out after you've signed up.

They'll know the IP address we are accessing, if its not on their list of IP addresses any data will get charged at whatever rate they chose.
Like how hard could it have been to make T&Cs that don't contradict itself.

Reality check...
I do not use my phone for much internet touring!
I do use it for calls and for SMS... I never exceed my data rate (post paid cap) and I am fine with the plans. I get 2 GB for $49 - I was told I can keep that in the plan by an official iPhone customer service rep on the phone. I asked for a confirmation because when I was in SYD for an Apple related event of some sort. I never came close to 500 MB in a week and my iPhone was all I used for data and email. When I was at the Apple store I used the wifi but every where else I used Optus. Wasn't too bad.
To be fair with Telstra - there are squillions of free WIFI hot spots. That is a reason to look at them, if you are out and about a bit. I am not. So it is a no biggy for me.
International roaming and international calls is a big one. BUT I can buy a pre-paid sim card where ever I am and use it.
Cheers..

wawa...
You can check your usage on your iPhone. It shows you from recharge to recharge how much data you have used and how many hours total you have used.
As for the T&Cs - it is legal mumbo jumbo but serious. YOU need to keep track of your usage. I do on my current "not-in-Australia" iPhone and it works for me.
I never go over my min cap plan amount but I do bump the ceiling a bit.
cheers.

If so that sounds VERY tempting, especially after having to pay $400 to cancel my 3 contract!

Just had Three at the TIO for excessive cancellation fees.
Before you pay it, get them to provide you with all of the paperwork you signed originally in store. They couldnt provide mine. Thus they could not justify the manner in which they calculated the fee (which was not how it was explained to me in shop).
In the end they refunded me over a grand.
Give it a go.

Also, your tesltra data packs can be used for whatever the heck you want. All this optus zoo restriction is just rubbish IMO.
MIGHT get a prepaid and unlock it to use on Telstra with my current nextG prepaid. OTOH my current iPhone is doing okay, and with the new firmware (once "dealt with") will be perfectly adequate.
