its either $80 recharge OR 6 months usage.
I wonder how much shit Optus had to go through to get a hold the unlocking codes for all the iPhone pre-paids (coz no doubt they would have figured a large portion of the bought prepaids would be wanting to be unlocked in the first week)

No joy - been with them for over 12 years, they are only willing to reduce the $344 cancellation fee to $280 - $60 is insignificant for me, so this has confirmed that I will have to look at an alternative.

This is a good point,
Does this suggest that if you're signing a 12/24 month contract with Optus, then the phone isn't physically locked to the network? (because you're 'locked' into the contract)
This would be handy for traveling overseas with foreign sim cards.

if anyone is interested, I just worked out one of the cheapest plan option Optus have:
Monthly plan price: $19
Monthly handset price (8GB): $21
together=$40 + 10% GST = $44
All this on a 24 month contract = 44 x 24 = $1056
So....
100MB Data/month
$50 worth of calls/text
all for $1056

Can't keep up with thread.
We have to remember if we want to use the GPS, it uses google maps, which uses the interwebs and cell tower data as well as satellite, meaning data, data, data.

Can someone please tell me ho much data is included on the Yes cap plans? I can only see info about the calls and text.
Is this right? - On a yes plan for $59 a month I have to pay $59 +$7 per month for a 16gb phone? I get 700mb of data and calls are 24’?
Does the Yes plan look better than the cap plan if you don't make many calls and just text and use data?

Set up an Excel spreadsheet that you enter this months stats thus far and it tells you where you are in the cap. It would include the freebies, so that gives you a mental barrier. Of course someone will likely write an app that will do this automatically on the iPhone, just enter you costs and it'll tell you how much its going to cost.
I doubt I'll be getting close close enough to the $300 included calls on the $49 cap that this will be a major concern for me. My big worry is the data usage.

All Optus plans already include GST so no need to add the extra 10%.
Maximum 12 month and 24 month pricing are actually already listed in the pricing document.

I had read somewhere that the Google maps uses miniscule data... like kb's per month. Even for map updating.... so it'll be fun to play with in the first "free" month.

so from what i can gather, theres no upfront costs of $199/299 unlike telstra... Right?
If so that sounds VERY tempting, especially after having to pay $400 to cancel my 3 contract!

Yay I finally caught up to the end of the thread. Guess we'll just have to wait for what Vodafone pull out of their hats.
With Telstra we're not 100% sure as to how their plans turn out. Getting more and more exciting!
