Does that count WiFi though? That would mess things up.

On the 1st generation iPhone it counted EDGE separately, I'd imagine it will be the same for the 3G iPhone.

Optus is in the Dark Ages in this regard. Even if you phone up customer service, they can't give you any information about your usage until the end of the billing cycle.
This is something that has bugged me for a number of years. All the other carriers can do it, as far as I know.

That's odd, I've talked to a 3 Optus World employees and one on the phone who have said you can check online and get warning SMSes (they can send out an SMS every say $50 or $100 of usage).
And apparently on normal cap plans you can. Hopefully its the same for the iPhone plans.

The iPhone itself has a data counter in the settings->usage menu... it's just a matter of remembering to reset it at the start of your billing period.

I found this on the APC website:
"So far, Optus has told APC that customers will be able to view their data usage via the 'MyUsage' section in the 'MyAccount' section on the Optus website. Prepaid customers (only) will be able to SMS "balance" to 9999 to get a reading on their prepaid data balance. We haven't yet heard from Vodafone or Telstra on how their customers will be able to keep tabs on their iPhone data usage."
I'm planning to move from 3 to Optus, so do i take it with a grain of salt?

I called optus today to see how I could upgrade my phone to the new iPhone and I was told it's not possible online or over the phone and that I would be luck if I could this week or next week as all stock will be at all optus store outlets and that there limited as well. Even worse when the doors open it will only open to customers which made a depsoit for the iPhone for the first 2 hours of trading. So it looks like I won't be able to upgrade my phone to iPhone for more likely a month or so.
Too me there's been to much hype on the iphone and I can wait.

if you check out that link i quoted from my earlier post there should be some screenshots and information about the live billing system.

Strong media coverage today in both smh.com.au and news.com.au
Sadly, that will stir up the great unwashed, and probablities of getting one of the few un-reserved optus phones have likely evaporated.
*sigh*
Still, there may be some upsides to waiting. If the overwhelming response to Optus gets some coverage, then in a few weeks Voda/Telstra might tweak their pricing.
And Three might get in on the game.

So, I just had a thought.
Does anyone know if what we'll have to bring into the optus store tomorrow morning? For example, phone bill, ID, credit card? I would like to port my old optus number over, how would I go about this?
Anyway, thanks for your help :-) Can't wait for this time tomorrow morning
