iphone accessories
On their registration page, Telstra list a few accessories for the iphone & ask what you want:
Apple iPhone3G Stereo Headset
Apple Bluetooth Headset
Apple USB Power Adapter
Apple iPhone3G Dock
Apple iPhone3G Dual Dock
Apple Universal Dock
Apple iPhone3G Universal Dock Adapter (3 Pack)
Apple iPhone3G TTY Adapter
Apple Dock Connector to USB Cable
Apple Composite AV Cable
What do you get in the box, what are the uses for some of the Telstra listed accessories, and what do you think are the "must haves"?

What's in the Box
iPhone 3G
Stereo headset with mic
USB power adapter
Dock Connector to USB cable
Documentation
Cleaning/polishing cloth
SIM eject tool
I already have a universal dock, but i would consider getting another one to have at work (I presume it can still charge the phone, like an ipod when connected to the computer). That is all i would really consider getting.

So why are Telstra asking if you're interested in some items that are already included in the box?
What does some of that other stuff do?

prey on the people who dont know what is in the box? Who knows, its telstra.
I would dare say it has to do with having one at work though. And the actual dock isnt in the box, just the connectors.

Why do you need to use a dock anyway, can't you just do the same thing as an ipod and just plug it directly from the phone to the computer through a cable?

You can, and will, macrich. I liked the dock though, as it was easier to see the screen if anything happened.
I'll just buy a dock though. Maybe we can have nice black/white ones to match the colours of the iPhone's we've bought.

FYI I have the Apple BT headset its very cool design and works great. Even connects to my mac for use with Skype. But I find it does not hold its battery charge long when setting idle or off. It takes almost as long as the phone to fully charge also.

ok cool, do you think the old iPhone dock adapters will work with the 3G ones? I have a dock at the moment, but only comes with iPhone adapter (pre 3G)

Another well thought out web-form, with a mandatory mobile phone field - even for those without a mobile phone.
Wonder whose number that was that I entered?

Apparently the iPhone 3G does not fit into the 1st gen. iPhone dock.

According to the website, the universal dock will fit the new iphone, which is what i have i never knew there was another kind
Further to that, i think you need to buy the adaptor thingy, but still $9 compared to $60
