I can confirm that my Virgin 3G SIM works perfectly in my new Optus PostPaid 16GB iPhone 3G.

No need to pay the $80 for unlock as Voice & data work perfectly fine.

So one of the cheapest ways to get an iPhone (if you can't find a pre-paid)? Get it on the Optus $19 per month cap, $61 per month iPhone cost over 12 months.

So if you just pull out the Optus SIM and never use it again, this makes the total cost of iPhone:

$19 + $61 x 12= $960.

Regards,
Shane.

can you use the data included on virgin? or only calls and sms?

Yes, if you have a Virgin data plan associated with that SIM.

I started another thread about this but then saw this one. Can any Virginers post their iphone experience so far... in particular I'm interested in how it is in Melbourne area, data speeds etc.

I've popped in my Virgin SIM into my iPhone 1.0 which has been broken to 2.0. As usual it says 'YES OPTUS' as the network and I've used a few MBs of data, however, on my online usage indicator on the Virgin site, nothing is getting updated.

I'm wondering if it actually is using Virgin's data or Optus' - the phone just worked with GPRS after the update to 2.0, but I'm also wondering if I need to actually point it to a Virgin specific address.

Anyone know?

Au

I have the same conundrum, however I am still waiting for my iphone 3G to be unlocked, so hopefully after it is unlocked I will be able to check/edit the APN and make sure it hasnt locked to my OPTUS Post-Paid Sims data package

it's so impolite to accuse someone, and not apologise later after the matter has been clarified. in fact, being ignorant of the matter and posting further posts as if nothing has happened make this a rude gesture.

one that has no ill-intentions or unintentionally accuse would have apologised already.

i believe forums are not for places for people without social decency.

I am waiting for it. Kinda hoping it's within the next two weeks. I'm getting bored without it.
