Am I correct in thinking that iphone would work better with Telstra?

Hi ya,

Am I correct in saying that the Telstra network is better for the iphone. I read in the FAQ page that the 3g being rolled out to new areas by Optus and Vodafone is not supported by the iphone. Are they any such problems with Telstra's future expansion projects?

Thanks in advance.

All Telstra's NextG works with the new iPhone 3G (850MHz).

Optus / Vodafone regional roll out is via a 900MHz - so iPhone 3G will default back to GSM speeds / use in those areas. Their capital city coverage (2100MHz) will be fine on iPhone 3G though.

This has been covered in a few of the other thread in here already though too!

Telstra's network is by far the the 3G network with the best coverage. So if you're after excellent coverage, Telstra is best. With the iPhone, it runs at the same speed as every other network.

Telstra's network is rated at 14.4mbit right now, where as the rest are just going to 7.2mbit. NextG will be at 21mbit by the end of the year, and 42mbit by end of '09. Albeit, there are no devices that operate any faster than 7.2mbit right now

Telstra's network is the best in the world, the problem is they charge so much for it that it's practically useless for anything but text-only email.

I'm happy with text only. I rarely make calls...BUT I have no reception at my own apartment when people call me! And I'm on Optus!!!! So I think it's time I got more coverage....and just spend my money on texts.

Shame, that. I could never, ever imagine an Apple user paying extra for quality.

Sure, I'll pay extra, but not this sort of exorbitant gouging:

Telstra mobile 3G internet:

Optus mobile 3G internet:

1GB on Telstra = $80/month
1GB on Optus = $30/month

It's more than double! (their network is good, but not double as good).
