The big problem with Telstra is predicting how much data I will use. If I'm only going to use 200MB, I could live with one of the T plans. But if it turns out I need 500MB, then I am screwed on Telstra. That's the cool thing about Optus is there is a smooth upgrade path.

At least they are consistent with their messages to customers.

I hate you too Telstra, I thought you were going to try and be nice for a change. And since when did Telstra get rid of the Free Text to Telstra Mobiles option? I might as well go with pre-paid on the 1c text to telstra mobile option.

Now with prices like that for the iPhone and the problems I've had with them and their attitude in the store when I asked when they will have info on the iPhone - I'm going to Vodaphone, maybe Optus. I want an iPhone - but I'm not going to sign my life away.

Well I think a piece of me died inside when reading those plans.
Hmm, well looks like I'll be going Optus and I'll just have to suffer the slower GSM speeds.

Oh boy, do these plans blow. I thought they were going to have something at least a little bit better than this.

I thought they would have actually gotten it for the iPhone. They appeared to understand the hiptop and gave great plans, but the iPhone has escaped Telstras genius.

Although I don't think it will do any good but what is the Telstra complaint email?
I need to vent!
I was really hoping for something at least close to Optus. I need Telstra 'cause when you go remote in Australia, there's no choice in this BS country.

Letter to Telstra
I sent this to Telstra using their web-based help email system. I'll be backing it up with a snail mail copy this afternoon. It can't hurt, and perhaps might even do some good; you never know.
Quote:
Dear Telstra,
I have been a Telstra customer for over seventeen years, with mobile and fixed-line services, and at times I have also utilised Bigpond broadband.
I was happy to see that Telstra would be offering the iPhone 3G, and awaited the details of Telstra's iPhone-specific mobile plans.
I find it extraordinarily disappointing that Telstra chose to keep those iPhone 3G plans from the public until the day of launch. This severely limited the ability for Australians to research their potential purchase and to understand where the value existed in signing up for a Telstra contract; additionally it limited the time available to compare Telstras offerings with those of its competitors, Optus and Vodafone. I find Telstras behaviour in this matter quite appalling.
However, I expected to be able to put my disappointment behind me and take advantage of some excellent offerings once Telstra released its iPhone 3G-specific plans.
Put simply, Telstra's iPhone 3G plans are absolutely terrible. Shockingly bad. Woeful.
After over 17 years as a Telstra customer, I will be shunning Telstra from this point, and will be taking my mobile business to Optus, as will my wife. In addition I will now investigate taking my fixed-line phone to another telecommunications provider. I took my broadband business elsewhere quite some time ago, based upon the poor value on offer by Telstra Bigpond.
It would seem that when Telstra framed the iPhone 3G plans, no notice was taken as to the data capabilities of the iPhone 3G device - as evidence, please reference the laughable data inclusions in Telstras iPhone Plans. Please do not point out the Browsing Packs, as they are even worse value paying an extra $29 on top of the phone plan for 80Mb per month is past a joke, and the joke falls even flatter upon discovering that a measly 200Mb per month will cost and extra $59 on top of a voice/SMS plan!
If taken at face value, the lack of a useful data inclusion in Telstra's iPhone plans would simply look strange and shortsighted, and perhaps a tad naive with a touch of ignorant thrown in. However Telstra's Hiptop and Blackberry plans do actually include useful amounts of data per month for a reasonable price. As such, it seems obvious that Telstra DOES understand that some devices on its 3G network are more data-centric than standard phones, and that there is value in including useful amounts of data in plans such as those offered for the Hiptop and Blackberry. The corollary to this point is that Telstra deliberately framed and set its iPhone plans in such a way as to gouge consumers for as much as it can.
I and many others are fed up with being the focus of such consumer contempt. Telstra has lost at least two customers due to poor decision making, and I predict it will lose many, many more.
Goodbye Telstra I'll be giving Optus my business very soon, unless you very swiftly come to your senses and offer reasonable, practical iPhone 3G plans that include real value.

Now, if only I could get my hands on a pair of Optus 16Gb iPhone 3G's today - one in white for Mrs Cods, one in black for me.
