Really. $720 if the contract goes south. Not a lot of money.
Do you really think they'll gouge on an iPhone, simply because it's an iPhone?

wat u talkin bout... they have the leaked prices... its terrible! the data you get is pointless

If the had any common sense they would, im taking my business to optus. Yes we can make ASSUMPTIONS on what the plan info might include, however, these are just ASSUMPTIONS with nothing officially announced and you would be a fool to make a purchase that locks you in for 2yrs based on ASSUMPTIONS.
Apart from that what is the point in releasing the info so late? Trying to make some last minuet changes?

Build the suspense and hype. It's working wonders.
At midnight they had some of you hammering Telstra's website thinking that's when they'll announce something new. Apple does the same thing with their global downtime upon the eve of a new product. The fact that even when it's simply just maintenance the site gets hammered. It draws you in.
Telstra want more than you hammering their homepage. They want you at the store. They want your heart to rule your head and once you get that device in your hands it's going to be very hard to put it back.

i say again. What more do you need? Put it another way. Bank on $30/month for 2 years with virtually no data. Buying data packs is expensive but they. are. the gatekeepers.

Good points.
But its a bit of a gamble dont you think. I was planing to head down to the tlife store in syd but not anymore based on nothing official and the crappy leaked plans. Ill wait a tad longer and try my luck with optus. Stupid credit card couldn't get my $50 deposit.
Might work out for the best in the end, want to make sure i get the best value for money. For me data is the key.

yeh i agree... you'll have it a few days (probs weeks) after everyone else, but you'll have more cash in ur pocket to buy some of those 'glorious apps' apple are counting on so much:P

I'll be there.
I don't make many voice calls, so $25 is more than enough for texting.
It's what I'm paying every month with prepaid to keep the number active so it's no change there. 2 year contract? If it doesn't suit I'll pay out the contract. $720 is not a big stretch of money. $820 if you include the unlocking. I'm still ahead than if I bought it outright and continued to use PrePaid.
RE: Data Packs. What little time I'm out and about will be enough to experiment with the different packs. I'm starting on the 1GB and see just how much usage there will be. Since Telstra are not locking you into data packs (and I've been confirmed this 3 times now) you can flip and change the usage as you see fit.

You could try your hand at the now superceded 1st gen iPhones on eBay. Since both get the new software the only things you might miss are the 3G and the GPS.
(and neither of which might be important to you. Depends what you do with your phone)

yeahh, i would love to have that kinda money to throw around. Im a student to and for me to get to uni everyday is expensive + books and other fees i must have money for up my sleeve. I have been planing for this since the announcement of the first iphone and should be right for the whole contract no matter what i chose but that doest mean im goin to choose a plan because i dont need it. Admittedly i would love the speed of telstra but if im going to be paying an arm and a leg for sit there is no benefit TO ME.

Just so people who are hoping to go on Telstra know... The iPhone is the only NextG mobile phone that does NOT get free BigPond services eg. WhereIs Mobile, Yellow Pages etc etc.
You can't even check your bill on your mobile for free on it.
