"Push has nothing to do with Optus/voda/telstra... its all back end stuff at your email provider..."
Perhaps, but I think Telstra puts you behind a NAT firewall. In theory, depending on how it is implemented, that could pose problems for push. Not sure if that is standard for mobile providers or not.

There was an SMS that went out to everyone too, just directing people to the website.

Where are the foxtel and bigpond buttons on the home screen? Surely telstra will lock them in somehow.

I'm currently with Telstra, but I'm preparing to shift over to Optus. Telstra's failure to release detailed plan info is a disgrace. Their current prices are a disgrace. And if as appears, they don't have anything that actually resembles a proper iPhone voice + data plan, well, that's a disgrace as well.
As for relying on their "fantastic wi-fi coverage", what's the point of having the best mobile broadband coverage beyond the major cities if no one can use it without putting their kids up for sale, signing in blood etc etc.

Funny how the ones living in rural areas that need to go with telstra for nextG's coverage don't even have access to the wifi hotspots anyway!

Exacly the reason I changed my mind last night.
I figured that sure optus doesn't have the wifi, but I have it at home and work anyways, so really only need it when out, and would rather have it everywhere than just at telstra's hotspots, and the charges for if i needed it elsewhere are fucked.

Geez - this has got to be one of the most frustration communication tactic with consumers. Do they really expect people to sign up without being fully informed of their options? What arrogance.
