After registering on the Telstra iPhone website, they say this.

Thank you for registering to receive information about the Apple iPhone3G. We will keep you up to date with launch dates, offers and other exciting news.

Has anyone actually got ANY emails from them? Or is this just another text book response with no meaning, just to make us happy and think we may get something?

The frustration comes from people, like myself, waiting for Telstra to see if we should pick Telstra or Optus. By continuing to wait, we may miss out on Optus only to find that Telstra's plans suck. I just hate the uncertainty as I wanted to preorder one by now. I haven't felt the need to abuse customer service staff yet, but I may need to bomb Telstra HQ if I miss out.

Haha. Whats really getting to me, is the fact we still have no official word on what stores will be stocking them. When I had a chat online, the lady simply stated, this wil all be known Friday.
So wait, im supposed to line up at a store, wait, wait, wait & wait, and then get the bad news from the Store Rep stating they arnt stocking them? What bullshit, this goes for Vodafone, Telstra and Optus.

If the harassing thing was in my direction, you must be kidding.
I am a customer.
They are working for Telstra.
I asked some questions.
They gave some answers.
I'm not planing on buying on Friday, but I can see that not knowing the plans until release is quite frustrating for people who are.

Not a word. I was beginning to think I'd entered my email and phone number incorrectly. I picked both email and sms.

I tried to register at my local Telstra Store (Alice) on lunch break, and they were beyond clueless. They were like "I think you register at the website", bah!!!
But there were some people delivering what looks like a nice white display table, not dissimilar to what I've seen in Apple stores to display iPods...*fingers crossed*

I made the Harrassment comment. It wasn't directed at any specific individual.
The point is that it's a dead certainty that as soon as any additional information is available it will be on the mactalk homepage probably before it's on the telco's homepage. And telco's are notorious for not providing frontline staff with any info until the last possible second. So when it becomes known, we'll almost certainly know here before we see it anywhere else.

OMG! I've just come from the new Telstra store. They were pretty clueless, but the guy checked with his boss after I mentioned Optus pricing. The word, spoken out of the side of his mouth because he wasn't allowed to say, is that there is no 3G data with the $30 plan and a pitiful 10mb of 3G data (thats right 10mb) with the $80 plan.
He said that you will need to buy a data plan as well. How much is that you ask...
For just $30 per month you can get an additional 80mb.
That just killed the Telstra deal for me.
Also he said that Telstra was going to text message all those who registered on Friday to tell them which store to pick up their phone. By then most of us will already have our Optus phone with a decent amount of 3G data.

Do you know what the call rates are and how much data you will get on the plan?

If this is the case, I will cut my losses and go with Voda/Optus. I am on the $29/month for 80mb plan on EDGE and I am using 200mb/month and it is costing me a fuckload. If I move to Optus I will save so much money, the penalty fee for leaving Telstra will be worth it.

Was originally going to just do 2x $30 for me and katy (Wife).
she now wants an $80 plan, as she sends lots of TXT so knows she'll go over the $30 mark, and $80 gets the phone for free, so now I'm considering the $100 as i want a $16gb.
I figure i'll get better rates as well, and won't need to be stingy with myself on calls and TXT.
Just signed up to ADSL and Foxtel today (moving, and optus don't service new area) and they said if i add a mobile to the account i get 50% off internet for 12 months, so sold.
I just re-read their release, and they talk about "plans to suit everyone" and "starting at $30" with the $80/$100 as break points for free phones, so i think there's going to be a $40, $50, $60 and maybe even $70 option in there as well, similar to current plans.
They also have NextG Cap plans at $49, $79, $99 and $129
going in tomorrow afternoon to sign all paperwork, then will be there at around 0715 friday to collect the handsets.

Dude this is current pricing not the iPhone specific pricing...now one but the uppers at Telstra know what the cost is...and if they say they do they are probably lying.
