I don't think the wi-fi is all that great, it is just annoying having to go in to safari and log in to the web interface. It wont just automatically work.

Really? Even after Telstra's disastrous PR comments that "Apple should stick to their own knitting"?

No, you don't know that. All you know that there is a $30 plan, not what is included in it.

If I go for Telstra, which shop should I line out the front of? The Apple Store or the Telstra shop across the street?

Nah, it works based off Mac addresses, the same as the Nintendo DS free-hotspot deal they've done.

I'm quite sure it will. It will be ---> connect to wifi ----> see that person is using iPhone ----> allow connection -----> browse.
EDIT: See Exocet's post for better explanation of what Im trying to say.

The trouble I have is that the Telstra pricing plans are nuts
Mobile Member Plan - Telstra
At those rates, its approximately 3 to 4 times more expensive than Vodafone to actually make phone calls (Assuming you are willing to commit to a $49 cap).
Thats just insane

Line up outside the T[Life] store. There will be a lot less crowds!

Seems to me everyone else made more of the "Knitting" comment than Apple did.
Besides, you think Telstra is incapable of "drawing red herrings"/
Never hurts to keep your opposition in the dark.

I don't if it would be like that for the iPhone though, you are able to change your MAC address, with jailbroken iPhones. AT&T use a web log in system, I can't see why they would do that if they could just use registered MAC addresses.
