Telstra told me today that if I'm pre-registered with Telstra on their 1800iphone number, they will ring me on Friday to arrange my iPhone - either by telling me where I can go and get one or by signing up over the phone and having it couriered out. No more info on plans yet though.

I've just been to my local Telstra and Fone Zone stores, and none of them are saying anything, the girl at Telstra wasn't even sure if they would get them on Friday.
I'm getting a bit annoyed about this lack of info, I really need a chill pill

JB hifi have a tiny (printed) sign up, and Telstra is the carrier. No more detail than that, sorry. It might even have just been the press release.

No you don't. It is starting to get annoying. I mean even Optus who've released the plans haven't given up exactly what's happening on launch day. It's like three of them are sitting at a poker table. Optus has dealt the most cards so far, but the other two are still sitting there sorting out their hands. But nobody has a full house.

Unhappy East Gippsland Shortages

Hi guys,

Went into Bairnsdale Telstra shop today and was told that there will be ZERO iPhone's available at launch when I go home I contacted Traralgon Telstra shop and was told the same thing both believe that they will not receive stock for at least a month considering that these 2 shops are probably the 2 biggest regional areas east of Melbourne this has me really pissed off!!

So basically if you dont live in a major city you better be lining up in one if you want a iPhone from Telstra on friday and being that Telstra are the only one with decent data (GPRS) outside of the major cities they are my only option

Um yes apparently we will be, we are an Australian state after all and if it's being released in Australia, why wouldn't we?
We might not be major compared to some but Hobart is a capital city...
Maybe we can leave the Tasmanian bashing for another day!

Does any one think this may be all bullshit setup to create hype around the event

We've got two Vodafone stores in the Hobart area, Telstra Store right in the CBD, and an Optus Store on the eastern shore. In addition, we have a large assortment of Vodafone/Optus/Telstra dealers spread throughout the city. If anything I'm more confident that Tasmania's supply of iPhones will be better than that of Melb/Sydney (taking demand into account).

When/Where should you line up then?

I'm actually a little skeptical. I rang up numerous Telstra stores today just out of boredom (my day off, ok?) and i was told some convincing stories. The 1800iPhone number guy told me very firmly that i should not worry as the company is well aware of the demand and if i turn up on Friday at anytime they won't be sold out, they've been following the information that has been given on the 1800iPhone number and the sign up on the telstra website. I originally put my number down at my local shopping centre, but i'm just going to mission to the city nice and early i think. It's the only way.

Any ideas when will be an ideal time to begin lining up? I'm thinking around 3hrs before in the city! Not enough, too much?

What are the rest of you Telstronians planning to do?
